The show has already had several instances of calling out Spike’s attraction to Rarity, had an episode all about a love triangle (Simple Ways) and repeatedly demonstrates examples of explicit heterosexual couples. Cadence and Shining Armor had a wedding. Pinkie lives with a married couple. We’ve met Twilight’s mom and dad!
This isn’t a thing that needs its own very special episode. It’s a thing that just needs to casually exist. It doesn’t need to be made A Big Thing. It needs to be treated just like every other explicitly confirmed romantic relationship in the show. By having it just be there and treating it as something so utterly mundane and ordinary that it doesn’t need drawing attention to, you normalize it.
That’s what LGBT representation needs most of all. Normalisation. Unneeding of comment. Not just to children, but also to the people who try to insist that it’s weird and unusual and worth debating.
