I’m honestly confused by this logic.
The only reason they cut those parts out of the movie was because the subplot would be left hanging. They were already dealing with a situation on Earth and Sunset’s reconciliation with Celestia would of been something they couldn’t AND shouldn’t just phone in near the end.
As much as I would of loved to have had the scenes in, because they were awesome, at the end of the day it would of made the movie seem half finished, and worse, possibly ending the reconciliation before it even began. Let another movie or episode have them reconcile, and not as just a rushed side plot.
 
Yeah, that. Sunset doesn’t need to permanently move back to Equestria to reconcile with Celestia.

That’s making a big assumption that is not supported in anyway by the first movie or anything said by the writers. Your speculation that she would be homesick pass thirty moons is just that, speculation with nothing to support it.
 
And as said, the “homesick” subplot from Friendship Games was resolved by Sunset choosing to stay in canterlot high rather than return to Equestria so that’s not really a good example. If the homesick subplot had remained in the movie than her chances of returning would be a flat zero rather than the real low percentage you have now.
