I know it’s a long shot, but I’d love if they did something like this to end the EqG series: an epilogue that shows how magic changed their world in the years since the Fall Formal, as well as what happened to each of the girls after graduation.

Although, to play devil’s advocate, in the context of EqG being a one-time thing, there remains the idea that Sunset would still yearn to go back home to Equestria in thirty moons, whether or not she was faking her Heel Face Turn or not. The way that they’re handling her after the mandate to do more EqG movies, they’re quashing any of those feelings from her, hence the removal of the “homesick” subplot from Friendship Games.

I’d love to see an EQG TV series along the lines of Kamen Rider Fourze: typical high-school drama plots interspersed with battling monsters, and the monsters usually have some kind of connection to whatever high-school drama is occurring at the time.

It should’ve been a big tell since the first film. EqG was suppose to be a one time thing according to the commentary of Rainbow Rocks. Sunset stayed behind in the end of the first one. Hasbro made the writers make Rainbow Rocks and that’s why they had to jury rig the portal.
 
Even if those cut scenes from friendship games had remained it would’ve literally ended with Sunset picking staying with the girls rather than going back to equestria. The deleted scenes put the final nail in the coffin of sunset ever returning since it greatly reinforces that she considers EqG world her new home.
 
Sunset was written to stay since the get go. She was never meant to be part of the show or return. That’s how the writers wrote her character.

I… can’t help but wonder if this is REALLY the best angle for Sunset Shimmer. I mean, “another student of Celestia’s” had so much potential, but EqG just seems… wasteful.[/bq]
 
This is the equestria girls universe, EVERYTHING the seven of them do is going to see wasteful compared to what their pony selves do.  
The purpose of the series is “The horse girls but in high school”, so they kind of have to remain in high school and do high school girls stuff to pander to the intended audience (6-8 year olds) who view high school in a very naive and worshipful way, like how the power rangers were high schoolers.
 
 
Its just part of what the universe is; they’re never going to actually use their super powers for anything really important because the purpose of the toys requires them to be high schoolers.  
We’re not going to get sailor moon stuff here with the mane six creating some Crystal high tech utopia in the future like the sailor scouts did or whatnot :p

There’s never going to be any “reconciliation” or going back to Equestria for Sunset, ever. The fact they cut all the scenes with Sunset’s longing from home from Friendship Games is a pretty big tell.
 
And Twilight is the face of his version of the franchise, kind of like how Pikachu is for Pokémon, so expect her to be shoehorned into every major plot in both this and FiM (which has happened in every two-part and every season finale, for one) in one way or another. It’s obvious why they changed the ending of Friendship Games to have Sci-Twi move to Canterlot High… so she’ll be the main character in the next movie.
 
We have to face it, Starlight Glimmer is the Sunset analogue in FiM, and Sunset herself is in the EG series to stay.

You’re also omitting that she’d like to travel the world as well. What exactly is wrong with developing apps? Apps go beyond “funny fart noises”. Is it really hard to wrap around that someone that comes from a place with magic might be amazed at the wonders of modern technology like the Internet?
