Likewise. Given that I grade everything on a scale of Mass Effect 3/Call of Bioshock: Pretentious Borefare to Mass Effect 1/Starcraft, S3 and the seasons afterwards are pretty good; certainly better than the complete shitshow that was S2.

Of course it shouldn’t be treated like the Last Airbender. The ATLA was primarily story driven, while MLP:FiM is primarily character driven. The first seasons did a good job of easing us into our character’s outward motivations and digging deeper and deeper as the series went on with its episodic nature, while having short but good story driven plots to show how our heroic ponies handle these type of situations, like with Discord and Chrysalis. If given the right setting and the right characters, that kind of show is a breeding ground for creative ideas. Heck, even in S6, we still get a few awesome world building episodes like the Gauntlet of Fire.
 
Then a priority came down for the show that hasn’t really gone anywhere. Twilight as a princess? Okay sure, just justify it well, keep the show balanced and let it give good payoff. If it could do that, I welcome her alicornhood. But the problem is it hasn’t achieved any of that. The big plots aside, Twilight only grows as a person when she doubts her preconceptions, and such occurrences are so rare they practically happen every season and a half. An innumerable number of people welcomed the oasis of change in Amending Fences.

He could apply to any fandom. When he said he refused to acknowledge the other books existence I thought they were talking about the star wars fandom and the prequels+7.

Sort of. But at the end Quibble mentioned a ton of things the second half of the series did better but he doesn’t prefer.
 
That reminds me of a few series I’ve watched, most definitely, but that doesn’t really match the arguments one hears about MLP.

True, but it’s not as if seasons one and two were perfect in that regard either. By and large, the show is episodic and should not be treated like avatar the last Airbender.

Eh, Twilight’s ascension was ham-fisted and could have been executed so much better if it wasn’t just a last second asspull to end S3 with a bang, I feel. It certainly didn’t kill the show for me, though, S4 was actually fairly solid and I personally really enjoyed the premier/finale as well as its regular episodes.
 
What ruined the show for me was the sudden drop in quality afterwards. From the start of S5 onwards the show has just been barrelling downhill in regards to quality - S5 being mostly unmemorable, and S6 just being fucking painful to endure from what I’ve seen of it. Starlight Glimmer’s “redemption” also made no sense and was just a mess on top of that.

And just to be clear, obviously the decision to reject the show entirely after Twilight becomes a princess is stupid. But its not like everyone is going to say the show handled Twilight’s princess plot with all the right decisions.
 
I mean…homework vs saving people priorities? evil vines the ‘reformed’ Discord lied about and nobody cared? Legendary villain turned musclehead? Interesting cult character that gets rewritten and timeskipped ahead after they are all close friends? Baby unleashes ‘the cold’, which Celestia, Luna and Rainbow Power Mane 6 can’t fight back?
 
The show’s big plots haven’t been exactly batting a thousand since the Princess Twilight arc started.

The only difference they made clear at the end of the episode that the early and later daring do books traded one good aspect with another good aspect. That line kind of shifted the direction they were originally going with.
 
While there’s still been a good amount of great episodes in MLP:FiM, no denying that, we haven’t actually gained anything from all the excessive attention to Twilight being a princess. At least not directly. The later EG’s movies that indirectly exist after Twilight’s princesshood have definitely benefited from the change in tonal shift.
 
I mean I’ve heard a lot of good arguments that show hasn’t gotten worse due to the change, but I haven’t heard any arguments that its gone through a tonal shift that’s worse for some and actually BETTER then others.
 
It felt like Quibble was comparing something else then.

Does that mean that Dash represents the fans who won’t accept that certain people aren’t fans of the direction that the show is going and will refuse to hear criticism of it?

LMAO! I remember that, I was actually laughing while in the same time shaking my head. Couldn’t believe people were so butthurt over alicorn Twilight Sparkle that they actually quit watching the show.
