I find her hot, but I’m still not a furry. You don’t have to be a furry to occasionally enjoy furry-esk art. As long as you don’t find furry costumes cool, or want to roleplay as anthromorphic dogs or whatever, I think you’re fine.

In order for that to be true they would’ve to come directly from the furry fandom which isn’t true.  
I mean these types of characters have been around a lot longer than furries. Furries are just one type of group interested in a mediocre characters that are wildly popular with the general populace, especially children.  
As for similarities, you find those at pretty much any big fandom but in interest in different mediums.
