It’s literally magic. How does the map know when there’s a friendship problem, and who to send? It’s got some kind of insane clairavoyance in an ability to predict the future, knowing exactly who will interact with who at that place and in what way. It knows about your friendship problem across Equestria, and exactly who will be the helper to fix it as though it can predict every little interaction you will have. The map is omniscient. The map knows all.

The map was at least well established. It had an introduction and a purpose given. This new development that breaks the established pattern, though, came out of practically nowhere and nothing ever close to an explanation was given.

…So, there’s no possible logical reason why the map would choose Starlight, because the episode could have been done a different way; and it’s OK in varying degrees for other ponies to play the hero but it’s inexcusable for Starlight to do so (and, I’m guessing, Thorax, Trixie, and Discord) because, well, you say so, apparently.

As for “bringing others low” in order to “give someone the chance to be the hero”, is that what happened to everyone outside of Fluttershy in “Dragonshy”? to Twilight in “Stare Master”? to everyone outside of Twilight in “The Return of Harmony”? etc.

It’s always a controversial thing. Some are accepted, like Fluttershy in Dragonshy having provided just what was needed. Other cases cause the episodes to be controversional, like “The Return of Harmony” or “A Canterlot Wedding” {which is part of the reasons for which people also used to complain before that the narrative didn’t revolve anywhere as much around the Mane 6 as it did around Twilight), so, there’s degrees and degrees, but Starlight came off as a serious offender of this in the Season 6 finale, and arguably so in other episodes.

It makes your argument seem stronger because it makes you at least seem to be a more reasonable person that makes concessions as opposed to a brick wall that isn’t being reasonable, and when you show some humility, the other person is more willing to show some as well instead of it being a pride-fueled head-bashing contest.

Yeah, having thought about it more, “The Return of Harmony” isn’t a fitting example for my question anyway; it’s more like a nearly-perfect counter-example. “A Canterlot Wedding” would be better.

Are people still allowed to admit they made a mistake when arguing on the internet?

Just wanted to point out that Fluttershy was the one pony Discord couldn’t corrupt the normal way. She is incorruptable. He had to assume direct control (ie, mind-rape).

Though I suppose she still fell to Iron Will… But ultimately at least she realized she was becoming a monster and changed course. Getting Angel to ~~bdsm with her~~ tie her up and all.

There isn’t anyone within sensible narrative, only in meta narrative. And the explanation is that Starlight’s a Creator’s Pet.

I’m pointing out how when one ONLY says she’s creator’s pet as the criticism it sounds like they just don’t like it.

WHY is her being a creator’s pet a problem with the map picking someone outside of the mane 6 and only that one a problem?
It only explains why it was her, nothing more, and only outside of the story, and even then it’s not really provable.
So it doesn’t answer why it’s a problem in the story.

Me, absolutely.

The girls, I assume they’d be better than that. They know Luna, I think, even better than Celestia, compared to Twilight anyhow. Bias or no bias, they shouldn’t be nearly as bad in practice.

And I wouldn’t put it past them to see what both were doing before trying to mitigate. They don’t do all that friendship shit on the side to learn nothing.
