Technically, Starlight is condemned to their critiques. Maybe if the movie a tracts new fans to the show. They give more chances to Glimmer.

Personally I like Starlight in a secondary character position. I feel she’s the more interesting character with more room for development, but that she fits poorly as a ideal hero. She tends towards the smug, which works as a flawed anti-hero, but makes her a little more difficult to root for as a straight babyface. Her thing of being incredibly powerful and eager to help but so unwise about using that power that it often makes things worse really works for me, because it makes her relateable and flawed, yet still possessing of admirable qualities. It means she can do really cool stuff but the plot can always be a challenge to her.
 
Sunset Shimmer on the other hand is incredibly cool, no question about it. But she’s not changed much since Rainbow Rocks, and she’s actually only grown more virtuous, dedicated and straightforward. Her conflict in ‘Mirror Magic’ is she can’t turn off the hero, that she feels she always has to be prepared and ready to save the world. This isn’t massively interesting in terms of conflict, but it gives her stacks of raw charisma. She delivers some of the best friendship speeches in the show (full props to Rebecca Shoichet), she provides no end of inspirational moments to drive the development of other characters, and no one looks cooler kicking a bad guy’s butt.
 
They’re two of my hands down favorite characters (if it wasn’t already obvious).

Agreed. They both seem to suffer from the opposite problems. I think also the fact Sunset is more popular, yet only allowed to exist in the spinoff EqG movies/shorts, (in order to keep both series kinda separate) while Starlight is allowed to be in both, (or at least one EqG half hour special) is why Sunset fans’ hatred of Glimmer increased, as they want Sunset to do more. But at the same time they think Glimmer is bad, because she needs more growth as a character too, but they oddly don’t want her to do anything, or save the day, ‘cause then she’s a “Mary-Su.” So it’s a lose-lose situation. If Sunset saved the day instead of Glimmer, I’m sure Glimmer fans would be upset that Sunset was overshadowing Glimmer instead in her EqG debut.
 
Still, it’s interesting to see both interact, and I like the idea of Sunset helping Glimmer. As both are former baddies they both could make an interesting team.

Sunset Shimmer was a terrible villain, Starlight was a great one. Starlight’s redemption was instant and unsatifying, Sunset had the awesome Rainbow Rocks. Starlight actually keeps elements of her old villainy and struggles with those old desires, Sunset’s pretty much a saint and the sun frankly shines from her ass. Starlight gets to be the hero far too often, Sunset far to little.

I doubt they’ll do that, but knowing this fandom, they’ll get mad if Glimmer so much as makes background cameos in EqG. (Which I suppose wouldn’t make sense unless there’s another human Glimmer out there… Preferably with glasses.)

I suppose there are some differences, but I find it funny that Sunset fans tend to hate Glimmer for the same things Sunset could arguably be guilty of. (And vice-versa.) That’s why I find the “Sunset VS Starlight” dramas so odd & off-putting.

I love both Starlight and Sunset, partially because they have made Twilight a better character. I’m also of the somewhat controversial opinion that they are very different, at least in their current forms.

Lol. After Mirror Magic, I wonder how EqG fans are gonna react once they realize every EqG movie/episode from here on has Starlight as the lead protagonist. Lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens. Y’know, a human version of Starlight permanently joins the cast and pushes all the other 7 characters aside. Lol.

I don’t get the “Sunset VS Glimmer” debates either. (They’re practically the same character to me.) The Sunset fans are really no better. I remember some saying they want Sunset to replace Twilight as the main character, which kinda bugged me. (In “Rainbow Rocks,” & “Friendship Games” they pretty much get their wish.) I guess some just can’t bare to see their waifu not the center of attention constantly, or constantly saving the day, regardless which character it is.  
Though, I tend to catch more heat when I’m criticising Sunset, then I do Glimmer, (everyone seems to act like Sunset was a perfect character, nor ever did anything wrong) which is kinda souring me on Sunset I’m sorry to say, as I try to stay neutral on the whole “Sunset VS Starlight” issue. I guess “Rainbow Rocks” did too good a job of making fans feel sorry for her, which is kinda the opposite problem Glimmer’s character suffers from.
 
I think I kinda liked Glimmer better as a villain too, they could’ve stretched out her heel face-turn for another story-arc, or two, which probably would’ve helped it develop better. I guess if Glimmer had more reprocussions for her actions like Sunset did, (kinda hard, considering the bad things she did were undone by time travel, so nobody remembers ‘em, but Twi’ & Spike, which Spike often humorously rubs in her face) she’d be as popular as Sunset.

Lol. I actually just ignore the people that say the show’s ruined because of Starlight. Why? Because I can smell something else is gonna ruin it even further later on. Lol. Like Starlight turning into an alicorn.
 
Seen the EqD posts for Mirror Magic recently? So much Starlight hatred for stealing the show from Sunset. Lol. And some of those people used to be Starlight fans.
 
I loved her as a villain, though. She was great. And like many, I didn’t like her when she was instantly forgiven. It seemed baseless and unnatural. And since there’s nothing I can do about it, lol, I just make fun of it.

To be honest, those fans don’t bother me as much as those that constantly say she “ruined the show foreverz,” and such. (How many times has the show been “ruined foreverz?”) Her haters seem more outspoken. (A friend of mine said he won’t even watch any episodes featuring her. A friend whom BTW perfectly accepted Twilicorn, and all the other “controversial” moments in the show with no problem.)
 
I actually used to dislike her too, (feeling she went overboard in the S5 finale, and was redeemed to easily, which I still kinda do) but I guess getting sick of the hateraid made me reluctantly warm up to her, and accept her.

Lol. I know its just alternate cover and doesn’t mean anything but OH MY GOD look at the size of that star. Lol. Look at how it draws your attention away from everything else. Lol. Look at how big and important she is compared to the other insignificant background ponies. Lol. Its funny because this is how some fans perceive her. Its coincidentally hilarious.

We all know Glim’s the best and Alexlayer was being sincerely supportive of the character. Such a nice guy, he is.

Knowing idw this is most likely just another alternate cover that has almost nothing to do with the actual comic.  
So far all Starlights done in the ark are shoot a dragon with magic
