Takashi “Guardian of this motherfuckingfranchise” Iisuka came up with a brilliant excuse to justify the abscense of humans in certain sonic games, or the reason why the moon is still intact after the events of SA2: there are two canons, essentialy, two worlds/dimensions where the sonic games takes place in, one where there’s no humans in it, and other where the Adventure games, Sonic Unleashed, etc happened. Needless to say that it’s a dumb excuse for not paying atention while writing the game’s story or forgeting about the continuity of its own lore
 
Ian Flynn got it right by merging the two “worlds” together and adapting the events into one single adveture in the post-reboot era of Archie Sonic, but that bullshit is being forced into the new IDW canon, something that nobody asked for, and it just messes things up even further.
 
T.L,D.R - Iisuka came up with a bad excuse to justify the absence of humans/mobians/furries in the games by creating a two canons, essentialy, whicth makes nofucking sense, it’s fuckingdumb, shows that this franchise has a messed up lore since SA1.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, as a Sanik-fan myself, I’m glad they’re making a new ongoing comic series, and IDW makes great licensed comics. (Despite their ups & downs.) Plus it’s nice writer Ian Flynn is back. (Whom wrote for the previous Archie Comic series sense 2006, and wrote for Archie’s Megaman comics too.)  
I’m somewhat looking forward to it. It just won’t be the same as the classic 2-decade-spanning Archie series universe, (that I liked, because it combined canons & continuity from the games, cartoons, and some of it’s own original ideas) and isn’t exactly a replacement.
 
The only new character I kinda like is Tangle. Some are bashing her, or assuming she’s going to be a “Princess Sally rip-off/replacement” or something, but I’m sure she’ll have her own unique/different personality. At least, they aren’t overdoing making new characters like Ken Penders did.

Yeah, that Arc pretty much made me lose any sorta of hope I had for the MLP comics, I even stoped trying to defend them as avarege in therms of quality (even though, from a what a I’ve heard, there are probably new arcs now who are much better thankfully)

Same tbh, although I’m kinda concerned/excited to read the new comics, I really wish we got a conclusion for the next main arc and Sonic Universe as well. Man, so many good new caracters, the setting the world build, the possible adaptions, so much potencial, and it’s all gone now. I can only hope Ian does some just justice in the new comics, even if he has to deal the Sega obnoxious madantes/restrictions, The post Sonic Forces setting, the 2 worlds bullshit that Iizuka came up with…

Also the main gripe with Siege seemed to be the antagonist team-up, which supposedly was mandated by Hasbro iirc.
 
The core of the story-Sombra’s backstory, Amore, Radiant Hope, and the conflict with Chrysalis-seemed much less controversial.

Yeah, agreed. I actually enjoyed Ken Penders’ Sonic comics, even if he is rather notoriously egotistical, rude, and such…
 
Not many know this, but before Sonic, Penders actually did pencil art for the official short-lived Valient/Nintendo Comics System “Legend of Zelda” comics from the early ’90s. Probably why they gave him a job on Sonic as a writer, and artist.

I obviously wasn’t saying he’s NEARLY as bad… yet. Just that he has some warning signs, like a few HUGE stinkers (Sonic Live and Seige) in what is for now a pretty good run and a general preoccupation with with what is something of a sidenote in the grand scheme of the story (Echidnas, the Crystal Empire). Give him a a decade and he’ll be suing IDW and Hasbro for the rights to Sombra. :P

I kinda wish Sonic/Sega stuck with Archie though. The new IDW characters, and such don’t look as interesting as the Archie/SatA.M./game ones, and it seems odd this new reboot series is taking place right after the “Sonic Forces” game, which not many fans liked.
 
Frankly, Whitley is nowhere near as bad as Ken Penders, seeing as Penders (despite enjoying some of his stories/characters) has been notorious for being rude to fans, taking almost full credit for stories/characters he partially made, (like Evil Sonic/Scourge the Hedgehog) and creating alot of legal drama for the Archie Sonic series, (and might’ve been part of the reason Sega/Archie killed the series so close to it’s 300 issue milestone.

I would suggest caution though. He seems like Ken Penders all over again; a very good but unhinged writer who makes a to of very good that come to define the world and lore of a licensed comic, but with a few MASSIVE stinkers that will one day come to define the vast majority of his works. To clarify, I’m describing Penders here, but the early warning signs are there.
 
I’ll enjoy his works for as long as he stays sane, and jump ship when he sues Hasbro and IDW in order to make an “Original” IP about the Krystal Imperium, the Krystal Unikorns, and the Emperor Somber seeking redemption.

It won’t happen but I’d find it hilarious if it turned out one of those frightened fillies who let Tempest go get their ball back was a pre-alicorn Cadance, and the implication is that if it’d gone the other way Tempest would have become Shiny’s wife and Twi’s foalsitter.

It is, but I can’t help but feel annoyed that story concepts like these are handed to the comic writers instead of the show writers. The comic has some story ideas I like but they just seem to fall flat on their asses.

All this salt over a cover and a synopsis. Comic isn’t even out yet, might be totally different.
