@Gay Space Raptor
Please, don’t try to start a war. Applejewel was great as well, but unfortunately temporary.
Yes, I was sad to see her appear only once, but I got over it.
Country AJ is the pony we know and love.
@Background Pony #FBF8
Do you think jabbing at fluttershy with overexaggerated arguments is some sort of revenge for me calling AJ a background pony? Because i dont feel very hurt
“Oh my god you think thats a good character? Look at the way she acted 4 seasons ago, clearly this is very relevant!”
@FlutterButterButt
No, really, it was never funny. That attitude is exactly why the AJ we know and love is being replaced by, for all intents and purposes, an even more egregious stereotype.
You want a background pony? Fluttershy wouldn’t know how to stand on her own four hooves if it wasn’t for the rest of the cast. Complexity of character is invented and the writers have never bothered to consider what sort of complexities someone like AJ could have. How many times has Fluttershy been reminded that she needs to be more assertive again?
For example, they could have an episode where an overstressed AJ declares she’s sick and tired of nobody appreciating her hard work and deciding to go on a week long vacation. During which time, we might learn that she secretly longs for the more adventurous lives of her friends, but would never leave her family behind because she’d miss them.
@Whatthehell!?
Actually, the solution would be to incorporate EQG AJ into the Pony AJ. Then she would be one of the main characters again. Seriously, Applejack need more love.
I didn’t feel like Fluttershy’s song was about her being complex, it was more about how she was too scared to sing in front of others, bit likes to sing so she does it alone.
Always felt like the Mane 6 contained 3 traditionalists and 3 rebels, 1 of each subrace. Twilight is a traditional unicorn intent on joining the sodality of magic, Rarity is a self-made rebel with little interest in magic. Rainbow is a traditional pegasus intent on being an athlete (read: warrior), Fluttershy is a rebel who only really cares about the ground and the non-social responsibilities it brings. Applejack is a traditional earth pony farmer, but Pinkie the rebel left her farm and family behind and marches to the beat of her own drum perhaps more than any other character. Their historical play about the founding of Equestria shows this to have always been the case, but being in the past points out the rebels didn’t always fit into their society as well as they do now: Pinkie is an inept leader, Rarity is a selfish leader and Fluttershy is a cowardly, unwilling soldier.
This treatment of opposites necessarily renders AJ the simplest character yet without her the cast loses contrast, the setting loses realism and all of the ponies in this town really are crazy. I don’t think people have the greatest understanding of Lauren’s genius, the girls are linked together by supporting contrasts that help to define each other’s characters.
tl;dr: without the tsukkomi the boke is just an idiot
