what they’ve observed is that mares have miscarriages way more often, if they’re in close proximity with stallions they can’t have sex with. it’s actually something horse breeders have to watch out for, if they’re trying to find good genes in foreign studding stallions.

I believe you’re thinking of dolphins. If a mare is in heat, intercourse frequently results in her cervix being penetrated. If she’s not in heat, she won’t get pregnant anyway. The only “sperm rejection” comes at the end of a bucking hoof.
“Wrong” how? Again, the whole “pulling out of a belly button” thing was an exaggeration, not a serious suggestion. Our Background Pony just fixated on that while ignoring the actual point, that there’s no yes/no answer to be had about whether or not ponies can control their pregnancies.
