The episode never stated they were wrong to come up there, did it, though? Applejack said something along those lines, but she believed they’d been caught in standard practice, which they had not been at all.
 
And if you believe breaking someone’s leg and feeling bad for it and breaking their leg and not caring is the same… then I understand why Lightning Dust feels wronged for you.

I don’t care if you want to be helpful, you broke my leg doing stupid stuffyou know and have been told not to do, you get consequences.  
I’ll forgive when you pay due like normal people do, not when you get handed a ‘you tried’ sticker.
 
Entering military contolled airspace, in a hot air balloon.
 
In what world would you be allowed to just walk onto the tarmac or firing range of a boot camp as a civilian, without being brought in via paperwork and authorised transport?
 
And if Twilight checked ahead, they’d have halted training or told them to wait till a certain time, not send them up in one lf the most easily destroyed forms of transport available.

Where was it said they broke laws? And a big part of Rainbow’s introduction was her being helpful, or trying to be, after she messed up, right?
 
Contrast that to Lightning Dust, who flat-out stated she didn’t care she nearly got ponies killed. By the way, let’s say Rainbow’s friends did break laws coming there, and LD’s tornado stunt ended up killing them—would that make it okay?

That skews people real quick and is also one of the reasons why Spitfires sheer incompetence at the one job she had is so reprehensible.

I thought she was a sociopath so I clearly don’t see eye to eye with you.
She’s not a sociopath though, she clearly cares enough about Rainbow Dash enough even though she thought she was better than her. Even though all throughout WA she basically didn’t consider any of her input, she still listened to it. You can argue that it gets out of hand at the end of the episode, but you’re not gonna tell me that any sane person would look at what they did (almost killing the elements) and think “oh who cares”
Because apparently, Confalone the Character Destroyer thought she was a sociopath who needs to be locked the fuck up. And that’s not who Lightning Dust is supposed to be!
 
But… isn’t that what she did? Shrug and go “eh, almost got five ponies killed, who cares”?

Yeah, Rainbow Dash wasn’t as bad even in season one. If she knew ponies were getting hurt by her recklessness, she’d feel bad for it. Lightning Dust never had a problem with others getting injured because of her, that was central to her character.

Probably LD’s biggest fan, stood by her even while the fandom unanimously and repeatedly called her a cunt.
 
The writers basically just… completely ruined anything LD could have been, to do a fucking safety episode.

People didn’t want her reformed because of Spitfires part in eggin her on.
 
Rather then making her do dangerous stupid stuff without a care, they wanted it addressed exactly how she, Rainbow(‘s spoiled tail) and Spitfire failed to do what they were supposed.
 
From what I’ve seen this isn’t ‘unreformed’ it’s ‘minor negative traits amped to eleven to make the Good Guys right’.
 
She wasn’t any worse then Rainbow Dash was in season one, even more so when one takes into account the fault of the rest involved, and here we have the opposite of that situation being explored.
 
It’s lazy characterization, not consistent characterization.
