I completely understand what you saying, it’s do get kinda annoying when the writers keep ship teasing Spike and Rarity, let’s hope they do something about it in the next season.

Thing is this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Rarity kissed Spike on the cheek I’m sure if you’ve seen Secret of My Excess you’d already know this but at the same time just because she kissed him on the cheek doesn’t mean she automatically returns his feelings and they’re officially a couple just like that but does it because she’s grateful and that she appreciates him, we don’t know what Rarity feels about Spike other than the fact she may see him as cute and helpful or maybe as a little brother.
 
But of course if you like Sparity and still ship it then that’s fine, FlutterMac never became a thing because Big Mac ended up with Sugar Belle later on but that shouldn’t stop others from still shipping the two. The reason most fans are tired of the Sparity shtick is because after 8 seasons their relationship doesn’t seem to go absolutely nowhere and seems for the most part that Spike is just giving himself up to her and that Rarity’s taking him for granted, not to mention it comes off as some sort of running gag for the sake of some comic relief and a tease to the Sparity shippers and the viewers as a whole.
 
The writers should either do something to improve their relationship or have Spike finally get over and move on from Rarity but still respects her and views her as a close friend in which I hope is the latter. Not to mention, Spike has great potential of being a good character and most of us think he can do more than act as Twilight’s assistant or win Rarity’s heart to which I might add that the latter almost does nothing for him.

I know they are like 10 years apart, but if towards the end of the series we’ll see him older and happily in a relationship with her, I will gladly accept it because this thing will have EVOLVED. As for now I hate it because it’s stuck since Season 1. I know first hand how painful is to feel immobile in these situations.
