Headcanon: Moth ponies are a natural evolution which started millenia ago, with some desperate and unfortunate male breezies that resorted to trying to mate with unsuspecting regular Equestrian mares. Eventually, some of them ended up impregnating several those mares and, voila!
 
This was the origin of the Equestrian saying “Young mare, look out for the breezie, as he’s on the fly, to make you dizzy”
