Believable in what sense? As far as I could see their extreme interest in each other came out of nowhere in Rollercoaster of Friendship, there was zero buildup or justification for the shift in their behavior, etc. Recall these are the same girls who stopped being friends for years over a single misunderstanding, and spent the next few movies and specials either being annoyed with each other (as is common for their MLP counterparts) or treating each other no differently from their other close friends.
 
That is admittedly one problem with the EQG as a series, that is there is comparatively little time devoted to developing relationships among the characters in general. One can assume that a lot that applies to MLP applies to them, but obviously not everything does.

I get where you’re coming from but there are things called subtle cues, hints, foreshadowing and foreboding used in story telling. Something doesn’t have to be spelled out to be apparent. Applejack’s parents are dead; yeah no character ever said the word dead, death or die; no we don’t have a grave marker or a piece of a rotten corpse but there’s enough for the audience to piece it out at this point. There are enough jokes and hints that become obvious in RCOF that Rarity and Applejack’s relationship is a lot stronger than “platonic”. When you got more obvious moments like the other main cast noticing the similarities between Ragamuffin and Applejack and romance movie jokes like “don’t go” during high tension moments than you start lose plausible deniability.
 
As to why the show won’t ever spell everything out in big letters you still need recall the show runners still have to work with a G rating. If Ever After High can do it; this show could get away with it’s first mane 6/mane 6 ship by the end the series.
