It is still an open ending, save the epilogue.  
In MLP, it is pretty clear that there is only one way to permanently stop a villain. Reformation.  
Diamond Tiara, Nightmare Moon, the Changelings, Discord, Sombra, etc…  
In fact, any kind of imprisonment, whether that is petrification, banishment, etc…is always only temporary.  
So really, Cozy and the gang will be back. Whether they are faced by Twilight and the gang, or the next generation of friends, they wont stop until they are reformed.

My thoughts exactly on the open ending part except I dont really like this ending even though I’m willing to accept it (except Discord getting off scot-free), but you can’t please everyone Im guessing there’s folks who wanted just this

Just put her in juvie/reform school.

I didn’t want her to be redeemed, but I didn’t want this either. And it didn’t have to be either. They could have had them blast off like Team Rocket or like Chrysalis did at the end of A Canterlot Wedding. I did like the ending, but I would have been happier with that. There’s nothing wrong with an open ending.

Cozy outright stated her motivation when she was first revealed to be a villain. She wanted power, nothing more, nothing less. You don’t need a backstory to have that kind of motivation.

Okay, no, the “show for little kids” excuse does not fly. It never flies. That’s bullshit.
 
That being said, the episodes haven’t even been seen by most people who have little context of why decisions were carried out.

Regardless, that still does not make it right for people to send death threats to the writers and Jim Miller just because they’re pissed the show’s ending and won’t get a tenth season, It’s a show for children! Who cares how bad its episodes might be? It’s meant for little kids who don’t care how good or bad the episodes are.

I guess some ponies are just beyond redemption, and Cozy is of them.

God this was so brutal you can’t kill fillies like this this is little girls’ show. Cozy Glow reformation in G5?

Honestly, I don’t mind that Cozy was never given a motivation or a backstory.  
She was so fun to watch that it didn’t matter.

Yeah, she is pretty great, right? I guess they just made her completely evil because it was fun. I mean, she was always good to watch, so at least they made her a good villain =/
