That was write by the same writer than “Principal Matters” so… i believe that she actually hates Discord.

It was anything but a good twist. This was Rian Johnson levels of bad writing. Taking something with so much potential behind it, and then flushing it down the drain for a ‘shocking twist’ that no one asked for solely for subverting expectations as opposed to consistent storytelling. Cockteasing fans with Grogar was one thing but this twist utterly ruins Discord’s character on so many levels.

It was a good twist, but Discord should’ve died.

Discord made redeeming the villains impossible by letting them bond with friends who understood them. They all had a reason to hate the ponies and they all knew that. If any one of them had accepted friendship from the ponies, they would’ve betrayed their friends. The ponies only redeemed villains by offering friendship to those that had none. With or without bell, Discord led them stray.

Not really, just have the villains eventually break down and turn on each other when the battle got hot and have them be the cause of their own stoning if you really wanted to avoid the redemption. Having them stick together throughout the final battle and never leave each other or try to one up the other makes it look like Discord’s plan to make them all friends actually worked, its just this plan is so stupid there’s no part where they don’t hate ponies. The plan’s already stupid, but this one becomes actively maliciously stupid because he only ever taught them how to be bad together and never taught them about friendship.

Yeah that’s all great for people that wanted a redemption of the last three major villains. But you forget that there are a lot of people sick of redemptions and would be just as angry as you if they had been redeemed. The show staff were pretty much in a lose/lose situation with this finale.

Also Discord is the reason the villains were freed and started causing trouble again so he gets off scott free for being a dick yet again.

Jim said that there was a reason the animals being nothing but fused creatures and it would be explored in S9. So after all that had been said and shown it look like he meant Grogar creating them.

there was no Grogar build-up in the previous season. Just because they were made by Grogar doesn’t mean anything because it wasn’t revealed until Season 9. Otherwise you’d be able to claim he was built up since Season 1 with the hydra.

So build up Grogar for two seasons (yes, the magical creatures in Tartarus were implied to be created by Grogar) and in S9 only to turn out that he is still imprisoned or dead. This is some Rian Johnson type of writing. Subverting expectations for the sake of cheap surprise rather than story consistency.
