The main characters may be not the same as G4, so no one would return to their characters anyway… And I think Matthew still is voicing Shaggy in animated series and direct-to-video movies, just not in the CGI feature.

If the success of the Sonic movie is anything to go by, then I trust Paramount as their distributor as well as Paramount Animation (if they’re involved and inherited Hasbro’s deal)
 
Also, the Russians should know better than to hack the distributor’s stuff just to leak shit.
 
But yeah, it sucks that G4 is dead and will never be well known outside of the fandom like Marvel did even if it’s a beloved property that critics will never understand.
 
Not to mention because of the fact that this movie is a hard reboot, I am afraid Tara Strong will get cucked from the franchise as she was with the Powderpuff Girls, just like Matthew Lillard.
 
As for TV movies and 2D animation, since Paramount hates 2D animation now, we have to face facts that streaming is the future with Klaus, the Rocko special and the Invader Zim movie on Netflix.

Is not directly connected to a show that were 7 seasons in that might have made people think they need to watch the show first.  
It’s possible that the general audience lost interest in 2D theatrical films mostly due to a low budget TV movies being playing theatres when Pixar was going to get big possibly making 2D animation look cheaper there’s actually is.

The 2017 movie didn’t necessarily “fail,” seeing as it apparently made back it’s budget. and then some. It just wasn’t a huge major hit, like say Toy Story 3.

Still questioning how can a niche franchise like MLP can attract audiences and not fail like last time when a new movie comes out in two years.
 
MLP as a movie could work better on television or on streaming services such as Netflix or CBS All Access considering the critical successes of Invader Zim and Steven Universe’s film adaptations.

In fairness, sometimes Tom & Jerry had a “friendly rivalry” thing going on in the old cartoons too, or would become pals at the end of a toon. Though, yeah the ‘90s movie went overboard.
 
Yeah, that might be better for a short. I can’t see Wile E. Coyote’s legal battle making entirely a good movie.

It also made them friends. Also you can’t really make a movie based on Tom and Jerry’s main formula cat vs a mouse. we’re also supposed to be getting a wile e coyote movie and because him chasing The roadrunner wouldn’t make a full movie plot it’s about him suing acne. In fairness That does sound like a good idea for a short

You’re missing the point. The writing was on the wall on the end of Friendship is Magic since 2014 but many fans did not pay attention to it since they felt it would be the end of that specific toyline (with another toyline for when the show continues).

In fact, wasn’t the ‘90s “Tom & Jerry” movie hated, especially for having them talk, and focusing more on the new li’l girl character they help, and such? (Even as a kid I still haven’t seen it to this day, but it doesn’t look like I missed much.) Only good thing about it, many feel, were the Droopy the dog cameos.
 
Yeah, I honestly prefer the live-action Jim Carrey Grinch. He seems to be a good Dr. Robotnik too. (As the character is supposed to be a bit goofy. Even the serious/darker “Dr. Claw-like” version of Robotnik from STH SatA.M. had a few goofy moments. “Something is wrong in Topeka… Wherever that is…”)

I know that people are upset over the live-action Tom and Jerry movie(myself included) but it’s not like the animated ones were beloved classics.  
also the animated Grinch movie wasn’t exactly a huge improvement over the live action one

Yeah, I couldn’t imagine MLP working in live-action, but I was just saying some stuff does, so not all live-action adaptations are bad.
 
As a kid, I loved the Flintstones ‘90s movie, and John Goodman was definitely the perfect Fred. They made it feel more like the original cornball classic animated family sitcom, then just a movie, which is why I loved it. The set designs, cartoony sound effects, and dinosaur puppet designs helped give it a more cartoonier atmosphere. (And they kept the modernized vulgar humor to a minimum, unlike some modern movie adaptations that try to make ‘em too edgy. Though, I’ll admit, the bait-and-switch pterodactyl scene was funny.)  
Deeno was adorable too, and I like how they sneakily reused Mel Blanc’s sounds for him.
 
I also liked the 2000s “Rocky & Bullwinkle” movie as the main characters felt very in-character throughout it, kept the puns, and the meta self-deprecational humor of the original cartoon, while also poking fun at all the tropes of “animation turned live-action movie,” as well. Only problem with it was it needed more of Jonathan Winters.
 
The problem with other animated-turned-live-action movies is they usually try to make them too realistic, too modern, too vulgar, too dark, too meta, too serious, too goofy, or too something. A common problem is especially focusing too much on the “new normal human” characters sometimes. (Like the ’80s “Masters of the Universe” movie, or the live-action Transformers movies.) Luckily, the Sonic movie still focused on Sonic, and his one-liners.

Also, if I wanted a live-action MLP movie, I would prefer an Equestria Girls movie. With the right costume designs that is more faithful to EqG than the live-action EqG commercials.

You’re right. Also, don’t forget, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, a live-action Dora the Explorer movie was surprisingly praised.
 
Sadly, people care more about track records than the quality of a live-action adaptation of either a cartoon (like Alvin, Kim Possible, Flintstones, Scooby-Doo (even though the first two live-action films are nice then and still is now) and Smurfs, and also every classic Disney animated movie) or anime (like Dragon Ball, Attack on Titan, Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist). And they also prefer animation better than live-action when it comes to film adaptations of cartoons and anime to the point where people would say it should have been fully animated or something.

While I’m not saying I want a live-action MLP, I kinda disagree that making a series live-action automatically is what makes a movie adaptation bad. (Nor does it automatically make them “unfaithful to the source material”)  
If those movies were fully animated, would you still accept the stories, character design changes, and stuff?
 
Also, a movie has to do more then “stay true to the source material” to be good. Sometimes changing some things, or adding new things can make them better. Ever seen the original “The Mask” Dark Horse comic books? If the 1994 movie stayed true to those exactly, it’d be more of a violent horror movie, then a comedy.
 
Also, actually some live-action adaptations can still be good, look at the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie, it blended the dark atmospheric tone of the comics, with the goofy humor of the original ‘80s/‘90s cartoon perfectly, but changed some things, (like in the original comics, Leonardo was the one put in a coma) and some of the changes made it better honestly. Despite the minor changes, and being live-action, it was still true to it’s source material.
 
“Detective Pikachu” was live-action/CGI, and changed some things too, and didn’t follow the game it was based on exactly, but was still very good.  
Also, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is doing well too. So live-action adaptations actually can be good if handled properly.

And I always thought the underperformance of the movie was the reason why Hasbro decided to axe G4.
 
Do people even understand that My Little Pony is a beloved franchise, just like Simpsons, Sonic and Pokemon?

I’m only speculating but I feel if the sequel did come out after the show ended it would have given the expectations to be the grand finale.  
Which might have given an even smaller audience because it wouldn’t be newcomer friendly

The fandom is not big enough to support the movie financially on it’s own. We still knew nothing about what a sequel could have been.  
Also I don’t know for sure but I don’t think Phineas and Ferb would be any different to any other TV movie that Disney made in terms of production value
