Obviously, there’s no concrete proof. As such, I’m not saying it’s totally confirmed.
However, this seems totally believable. Hasbro is trying to get some footing on the “tween doll” market to compete with “Bratz” and “monster high”. Monster high’s popularity, especially, would explain why the dolls might have colorful pastel skin.
However, what convinces me even more is the image provided, as there has yet to be a an artist found for it.
The image seriously looks like concept art, and not like in a “Someone was able to recreate this” way.
This looks like two instances of concept designs were drawn up, (the mane 6 and background) and then someone said “Paste those two together, I want some internal concept art so the animators know the art direction.”
It’s like, if some fan drew this, I would assume they would create the background and characters and make them look natural together. This picture has just enough “disjointedness” to be believable.
I mean, sure, it’s also possible someone did that on purpose to create a hoax, but that seems a bit farfetched.
