I just saw this episode. It called for some dramatic removing of eyeglasses. Luckily I have them so I could do it. :) It started with the part with Derpy/Ditzy and Dr. Whooves.

Complete aside, but there’ve been a couple of episodes lately that have addressed similar topics to specific past episodes in far better ways, from different angles, and in frankly smarter and way less insulting ways. It’s really revitalised my interest in the show.
 
  • S4’s Leap of Faith vs. S1’s Look Before You Leap on the virtues of critical thinking. In case you’re wondering, I’m in favour of it, and Applejack is best pony.
     
  • S5’s The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone vs. S1’s Over a Barrel on… well, fantasies of the exotic natives of That Land Over There and the realities of crapsack modern life for them today - but really just bonus points for not re-imagining genocidal massacres as a pie fight.
     
    I don’t think this episode or this scene is a great progressive triumph, after all the show doesn’t exactly explore opposite-sex recently married couples’ sexuality either. But I can’t dislike adorable same-sex life partners best friends, either Platonic or otherwise.

    Sparkling parody of that kind of muddled revisionist thinking, but might it have been more effective if you’d added the condemnation of hate to the comment where you literally agree that your ostensible opponents are subhumans?
     
    I kid of course. As a subhuman swj communist myself, I’m pretty glad this episode gave $(muffin_emoji) quite a sweet speaking voice and a fun, easily distracted stock characterization. Big improvement over a voice sounding, to me at least, like the class bully mocking the school thicko.

A picture with no appearance by Derpy has somehow derailed into yet another echo chamber about how everyone who didn’t like her appearance is worthless and subhuman in every way the attackers can think of. There’s been more than enough effort spent shouting down certain opinions so that unbridled hate can take their place; it doesn’t need to happen here too.

oh well sorry I don’t do Tumblr. So I have no idea about the butt rage from there. I understand better now and only believed it was angry moms because they DO complain about silly crap. Have you heard the sit com “New Normal?” It apparently got canned before it aired because of them. But again thank you for making me see it better, which also does explain how come angry moms didn’t rage about the Jail Break episode in Steven Universe

Isn’t it obvious? Haven’t you been following the outrage culture, tumblr and “ableism” for the last years? This entire thing was started by one or two people who started blogging about how Derpy was ableist. It went semi-viral inside certain tumblr circles (largely due to them just wanting to spite bronies). This led to about 10 of these do-nothing activists writing letters to some of the staff on the show (and rude ones at that according to themselves). Be honest. Moms wouldn’t even know what “ableist”. They wouldn’t give one flying fuck about Derpy. Not one flying fuck. This is entirely a tumblr outrage culture thing. That is clear as crystals.
 
But I don’t know why I bother explaining this. 5 minutes later someone else will be blaming parents again.

When I first heard her speak, I even thought she sounded sorta like the Ponies with Hats version. I think it really did influence what she should sound like in someone’s mind.
