You know, I think the writers that SPIKE IS A CHARACTER TOO! You don’t need to degrade him to the status of a dog just because he’s different from the rest of the main cast.
@Trickquestion
um, we’re talking about cartoons here. just because he’s a dog doesn’t mean he won’t be capable of speech. especially not with a possibly-still-a-magical-pony-princess/demigod around.
@Trickquestion @Background Pony
Spike the dog’s facial expressions showed awareness of the situation and concern for Twilight, so even if he can’t talk I think that he’s still intelligent.
@Trickquestion
Doesn’t fill me with confidence either; on the other hand, given how Hasbro and (sometimes) DHX tend to overlook Spike, even if he spoke in the movie it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t show that in the trailer.
I’m leaning towards him not speaking, but I’m also trying to keep what’s known distinct from what’s speculation, even if it’s informed, logical speculation.
Honestly, I don’t mind alternate universes/canons. It lets them try something new, without disturbing the main canon. I liked having multiple canons for Batman, TMNT, Sonic, and such.
@Splinter17
In the Equestria girls universe perhaps.
But in FIM, which is y’know a seperate universe and all (magic mirror and all), it’s still possible. The writers have put in a lot of effort to develop the relationship between the two.
@Beau Skunky
Dogs are inferior to humans. It’s kind of an accepted thing. Though this being a cartoon he’s probably intelligent like Spike but he’s still just a fucking dog.
@Beau Skunky
Because they took a rational, kind hearted support character who sometimes acts as the voice of reason to Twilight and is disproportionately treated like crap, and turned him into a pet incapable of speech.
