@JetClam
Well, it’s clear to me that you are talking entirely out of your ass. Are you really being serious in any way, shape, or form? You think men and women are totally equal in every single way in every single subject? Tell me, then: how so? I mean, let’s take a look at the issue of rape. In almost every single male-on-female case, the first question that comes up is inevitably “What was she wearing?” or “Was she drunk?” Victim-blaming is so utterly prevalent that it’s impossible to ignore; if, as you say, feminism had achieved everything it needed to and should be gone already, then that wouldn’t be a problem. Women worldwide either can’t even report it for fear of being persecuted by law (less developed nations) or by the public (developed nations), let alone get any meaningful justice on their part. That’s fucked up. I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about with the whole “you view women as the weaker sex” thing–I don’t, I just call out serious cases of sexist idiocy when I see it because I’ve seen what it does to people–but I do know that being strong and independent alone won’t always work in your favor. Discrimination is discrimination, plain and simple. Don’t let me even get started on the double standard of female-against-male–the sooner we get rid of overtly patriarchal, “macho” ideals as some sort of realistic bar to reach, the sooner we can actually look at criminal cases equally.
So tell me: is that not an important issue? Is a person’s right to pursue happiness without having to fear institutional degradation not an important issue? You’re saying that it’s not; by equating the modern feminist movement with “throwing around meaningless platitudes, weasel words, and crutch-phrases,” you’re effectively turning a blind eye to the very real and important issues surrounding our society today. For shame, fool, for shame.
I’ll just reiterate this one more time before I go on to my next point so you’ll get it in your head. Women aren’t the “weaker sex,” and I never implied them to be so. However strong you may be as a person, prevailing persecution against you sucks; this goes for men too, especially because of the ostracism that follows anything but a strict adherence to the overly aggressive “macho” ideal. Strength has nothing to do with it.
And saying “I know how it feels” doesn’t make you any less of a sanctimonious prick. If you’re blind to the staggeringly unbalanced and overly simplified view of gender roles that most people still carry, then so be it, that’s you. Just don’t ignore the fact that important issues still exist that affect us all, of both genders, and that turning a blind eye to them isn’t going to help. I don’t agree with the whole “Down with Molestia” thing–it’ll blow over in a week or two, I’m guessing–but I disagree even more with the angry rantings about how feminism will destroy us all. It’s quite a big jump from “oh look some trolling” to “down with feminism,” one that is missing too many steps to properly count as logical. The above image doesn’t represent the whole, not at all. Just think for a second, will you?
@Derpingtonthe20th
Yes and we think she’s a fucking idiot too, or did you not pay attention to everyone railing at her for the Anita support thing?
If I got to meet her, I would have her autograph my Fausticorn plush before beating the stupid out of her with it.
Pseudo-intellectual morons like you are the very reason that images like this have to be posted to begin with.
Feminism, “alive and present”? Are you fucking dense? Get over yourself. What passes for “feminism” nowadays would make actual feminists, like the ones at the Seneca Falls Convention; Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Frederick Douglass (one of my personal favorite figures in American history), and so on; wonder why they even bothered. I mean, sure, they were mostly self-righteous, polemic clowns who couldn’t stop singing their own praises for ten god-damn seconds to give any undiluted substance, but at least they had some good points - the suffrage issue, for instance, was a noble cause, one that was worth pursuing and one that they were very successful in calling attention to in the ensuing decades. Now, instead of the previous generations’ vision of meek baby-makers, we have a generation of (legitimately) strong-minded, independent women who can cooperate and compete with their male (or other) counterparts on level ground.
But what you lot - their supposed intellectual descendants - are doing today, can’t hold a damn candle to any of that. You are not pursuing actual important issues, you are not doing anything that will have any meaningful effect - ALL you are doing is throwing around meaningless platitudes, weasel words, and crutch-phrases, and you’re accomplishing nothing except for making people cringe at what pretentious martyrs you are. This, and you’re distancing people from your cause (and rightly so), as well as, ironically, reinforcing the idea of females being a “weaker sex” that is vulnerable and has to be protected, in the minds of your audience. This, this image of weakness that you’re apparently trying to cultivate, is what is truly fucking demeaning, and as someone who has constantly been abused and told that he would fail by his father growing up (and even today), believe me, I know what I’m talking about when I say I know how that feels.
What follows is captured perfectly by the image above. You have no actual issues, concerns or offenses for people to address, so you grasp for straws wherever your can, bundling them together until you have enough to construct a straw-problem of your own to wage war on. There’s no more point to your movement whatsoever - as has been clearly demonstrated by the fact that you have to target a tumblr of comics about an innocuous, fictional franchise, which, along with its fanbase, has done an exemplary job of taking the “traditional” view of gender roles and stereotypes, the one that you people are claiming to oppose, and showing just how much of an outmoded relic it really is.
You actually think that you’re still relevant, that you’re actually doing anyone in the world any good? You might as well be calling a graveyard a metropolis.
@kassarc16
Or, you’re just an ignoramus who can’t fathom that feminism–the most modern iteration that focuses on weakening the overarching patriarchal culture that damages men and women both and promoting equality between the sexes (which, incidentally, is what the first feminists also focused on)–is alive and present. Seriously, have you seen any actual feminist rhetoric outside of misogynistic rantings on how “feminism is evil?”
@Derpingtonthe20th
You’re either a legitimate member of the old guard unwilling to admit a movement you belong to has turned into a monster, or you’re part of the problem, using an unseen amount of guile and tact to lull people into a false sense of security.
@Tidbit
Yeah well rape-culture is still a problem in much of the developed world. At the very least people should stop blaming the victim for it; “it’s your fault you got raped” is pretty much the main notion that rape culture is based off of. It doesn’t allow rape victims to get better if they’re derided for being raped. Hell, the reason so many rapes go unreported is because the police don’t do shit–“Well she was wearing skimpy clothing, so it must be her fault” being the reasoning. Once we do away with that idiocy, rape culture won’t be an issue anymore.
You guys are funny. I for one, love molestia. I also feel sorry for the rapebros and sisters. Shit happens, try to make it better and move on. Don’t waste your whole bloody life on silly activism that doesn’t do anything other than make people hate you. I for one don’t want to hate feminists or the “rape-culture” people but you know, they kinda make it hard.
I wanna love you people, please don’t make that hard for me. You’ll make fluttershy cry ;n;
@kassarc16
I beg to differ. I don’t know what kind of minor, venomous offshoots you’re looking at to make such assumptions, but true feminism is still very much alive and needed. You don’t sound like you’ve actually read or listened to modern feminist rhetoric at all, frankly speaking.
@Derpingtonthe20th
I absolutely understand what feminism has BECOME, no matter what it’s SUPPOSED to be. If someone doesn’t understand, it’s those like you.
@kassarc16
You don’t have a clue as to what feminism is, do you? Feminism is the belief that both sexes should be equal; misandry is the belief that women should rule over men. Don’t confuse the two, because it just lessens your clout in any gender-related debate.
@Nightweaver20xx
It’s not the character in question, it’s the portrayal of such. I’m assuming you’re referring to the actual picture above or you’d have to redirect me to what you’re actually talking about. As it stands, however, to implicate the “Down with Molestia” works as those by feminists–and not by, say, some anti-feminist troll purposefully trying to elicit these reactions–is really not doing anybody any favors. I personally don’t have much problem with those posts, seeing as it’s just going to die down in a week or two as is the pattern, but to jump from “oh look there are some images I disagree with” to “FUCK FEMINISM WITH A DIAMOND-STUDDED MOTORIZED DILDO” is just lame. That I have a problem with.
