However, it’s pretty heavily implied in FiM that they are capable of inflicted this type of harm or greater. They just can’t show it onscreen for “ze kidz”.

With the way the ponies constantly fought and killed bizarre magic creatures, many sentient, G1 MLP was a better DnD cartoon then the actual DnD cartoon.

Yeah there are some other pics and animations uploaded here by me and others of Dream Valley ponies kicking ass when they have to.  
I like to think of the place as prehistoric D&D style Equestria.

It seems to me that killing anything that “talks” is considered cruel and not allowed. But killing anything that are “speechless” is okay.

I know what you mean, I miss the old days and this is coming from a guy born into this generation…..sad really.

And so Buttons handles her enemies not by making friends with them, but by sending them screaming to their doom. Man but kid’s cartoons could get away with some wild stuff back in the 80’s.

I like to think this was more clever than cruel strategy.  
It’s not like these monsters would do anything besides eat her or kill her or try herding her towards Crunch to be turned to stone.  
The ponies are vastly outnumbered by a wide variety of vicious and dangerous creatures.  
Sometimes there is a chance for reforming them, but sometimes the ponies just have to defend their territory and their friends.
