You know, I think I finally figured out what bugs me about the people that complain about Twilight becoming a Princess/Alacorn. They see this as making Twilight become a girly stereotype, and yet they forget that the great thing about this show is breaking those stereotypes. Look at Rarity for a great example. She started off being shown as the fashion girl, and because of this, people assumed she would be a shallow female dog who would obsessively buy the latest fashion trend and look down on anybody else who did not. But as the show progressed, we found out that she was actually a generous (though that can sometimes be debated), creative type who creates her own fashion and is genuinely endearing and funny with her drama-queen antics. Then we found out she is a real character with struggles through fights with her own bouts of greed (ala Sweet and Elite), envy (ala Green with Envy), and constant clashes and mistakes with her sister (ala Sisterhooves Social) People who argue against Twilight becoming a Princess/Alacorn are essentially making the same arguments about not watching the show they made to themselves and everybody else before they actually watched it. They should be welcoming this change as it gives the writer a chance to break the girly princess stereotype. I for one learned my lesson about not judging based on girly stereotype potential about 10 episodes into watching the first season, so I hope they learn it soon as well.

That argument reminds me of the argument that comes around every election: “So-and-so did all of this stuff, they DESERVE to be president!”
 
Except a non-president becoming a president is something that we already know can happen.

Because, as it was pointed out before, the logical implications of it are so vast keeping the structure together while advancing the plot in this manner is just… well, it’s mostly nonsensical unless a very good in-universe explanation which isn’t the equivalent to a handwave.
 
Even assuming the best case scenario, Twilight’s alicorn status is on it’s on a very easy visual disrupter and the sort of thing you can’t just simply dismiss as something others will as well.
 
Being an alicorn carries a certain sense of authority and importance which to many dis-balances the group in rather obvious ways, and none of those fears were quelled by either showing later on. They had some reasonable fears before hand based upon simple observations of the show, and nothing has happened to calm those fears.
 
Plenty of stuff has been done to ridicule and mock them, however, and that’s exactly what has brought us this whole mess.
 
Now, those that simply hate it because they dislike Twilight with wings aren’t really something I’m here to defend, if only because the issue is not the bloody wings and they make defending the point much more difficult because, yes, I get why you dislike it, but that’s not a valid discussion point outside of personal opinion.
