My only concern with the story has to with the fact that the Mane Six, who had no experience using the Elements, were able to remove the dark magic without harming Luna.  
If they could do it on their first try, why couldn’t Celestia?

Let people interpret the show the way they want to. They’re not doing any harm to you. Besides, it’s a fictional story. No matter how canon Celestia’s benevolence is, it’s not anymore real than her tyranny.
