She had no sound reasons for hating her. and yes she did hate her. Listen to her dialogue, AJ was threatning Zecora when she did nothing to her.
AJ was racist out of ignorance. Not completely out of malice, but she did go a bit far and jumped to conclusions without sound justification. She was discrimanting Zecora for what she was. Even though she didn’t know what she was at first, she still was prejudice against her for what she was. Not for who she was.
Aj definitely doesn’t hate Zecora now, but she did, there is no denying that.
@EHAN
AJ tought that Zecora was dangerous (she didnt hated her)because she lives in everfree and talks and acts in a weird way, not because she is a zebra
@EHAN
How could she be racist toward zebras if she didnt know that zebras existed? they tought that Zecora was an earth pony witch that painted stripes on her body
I personally do not think a story is bad just because it uses cliches. Thats not to say I tolerate shit like Power Ponies which just strait up uses cliches without giving us anything else.
I think what a lot of people tend to forget is that Spike is a child. He may act mature sometimes (and it’s great when he does) but he is still a child and he still responds to situations like a child would.
Most of the mistakes he makes in that episode are understandable and are things that could happen to any other individual. (key word: most).
I don’t think Spike was a walking joke, I think he was the instigator of many of the jokes in the episode, such as him building a freaking rock tower and Rainbow having to smash through it cuz she was a blockhead (I’m teasing Dash).
Notice how Spike messes up when he becomes very excited (like when he starts trying to clean up AJ’s house). Him ruining Rarity’s sink was funny, but it is something that he should have been able to do so I can’t excuse that.
Hmm, I belived his good-bye was heartfelt enough. You could tell by his voice that he is trying to do this officially, cleanly and emotionlessly; he’s holding back but you can hear the regret in his voice. and am I the only one who caught this: doesn’t Spike start to cry when Twilight ignores him? Not loud bawling, but tears run down his face and he looks absolutely crushed. As for Twi, I can vouch for the fact that one can’t hear what is going on around you when sufficiently caught up in a book. It happens. It’s not that Twilight didn’t care, she was just not paying attention. Sure Spike could have probably made sure she was listening but in his mind he was probably trying to spare Twilight’s feelings (which is why it hurts him so much more when it appears that she doesn’t give an actual fuck).
The dragon code is obviously made up by him, you can easily tell it’s made with crayons. As for why Twilight seemed to take it so seriously, perhaps she was in a way ‘humoring’ Spike. She probably knows how much it means to him to try to live by this code of honor that he has imposed upon himself. Spike probably made this after the events of Dragon Quest to make sure (in his mind) that there was no way he’d end up like the teenage dragons.
Personally I think people just don’t like Spike episodes, so they go in expecting to hate it. This goes the same way for Dave Polsky (prior S.4) and Merriwether. Put all three together and I’m pretty sure you’re already starting off the episode in a bad mood and not expecting anything good.
As for how bad it is, I highly doubt that this episode would nausate anyone. If any episode could be called nausating it would be ‘Boast Busters’, but noooo Trixie is cute so that just makes the whole episode (which had ALL the mane 6 that spoke behave OOC) ok.
But like I said in my previous message, we really don’t know the whole process of writing an episode. What we do know about this particular one is that Merriwether was on a time contraint, since Polsky’s original script was pulled out and they needed someone to write a script to send to company and the animation team, fast. And from what is known about Merriwether, it’s that she can write scripts very fast. Which is probably why they handed the task of coming up with something fast over to her.
If you don’t like the episode that’s fine, I won’t hate you for it. I see it’s flaws, but I can look past them and enjoy what is good about the episode. (sorry for the wall of text)
@ArrJaySketch
Aye, but, unless Applejack and/or Twilight have this happen, too, Fluttershy may be the one to get her key without the influence of the rest of the Six.
Sorry, I just hate it so bad. Spike becomes a walking joke and the “life debt” story is the most cliched piece of shit ever.
“Durr…… I’m gonna play my belly like a bongo and smell ma stinky feet. DERRRRR! I can’t do even the simplest task without ruining it even though I’ve been known to be competent in the past.
Oh hi twilight, even though you’re the closest thing I have to family I’m just going to leave forever and never come back. Ok.
what the fuck ever spike. I’m reading a book. I won’t even notice.
I suddenly have a dragon code for no reason and now I’m helping applejack. HUR HUR!”
Even recalling it is making feel the need to vomit. The reason my sarcastic critiques are not in order is because I had to stagger them in a way that would keep me from going into a hatred seizure.
@Background Pony #F452
I admit it was not a great episode.
It’s not above Larson’s Spike episode, but it’s much better than the others I listed.
I didn’t think Spike was out of character (for most of the scenes).
And yes, Merriwether was the writer, but we have to consider a lot of things. Like the fact that she was under a very tight schedule and that she basically just rewrote what Polsky wrote; replacing Rarity with Applejack. Much of the same elements stayed the same.
I’m not saying it’s an awesome episode, but I enjoyed it. I understand why people don’t like it, but I don’t think it ‘ruins’ the episode.
I highly doubt Williams is out. and please, don’t act like only she’s the only one who writes bad Spike episodes (which is debatable. I liked Dragon Quest and Spike at Your Service). I think up almost every writer has taken a crack at writing a Spike episode, and they have all failed miserbly.
M.A. Larson is the only one to have written a decent Spike episode.
Cindy Morrow wrote Owl’s Well That Ends Well,
Merriwether wrote Dragon Quest, Dave Polsky and Merriwether wrote Spike at Your Service, Corey Powell wrote Just for Sidekicks, Meghan and Fullerton wrote Power Ponies.
All these Spike episodes have been considered flops by a good half of the mlp fandom. Merriwether isn’t solely to blame for bad Spike episodes.
…I swear if I see a god damn breezy version of Derpy Hooves in that episode… I will literally go to the nearest furniture store, buy all their tables that are on sale and in stock, come home, place all the tables inside and outside my house where I can easily access them in a sequential order, sit down at my chair for a minute to comprehend what had occurred in silence… and then slowly stand up and start furiously flipping every table in my house while screaming;
