I want to argue with that, but I can’t. It’s a shame, too, because back before they smoothed her out, she was great. You can still see the old Twilight in there, but it’s kinda gotten buried. Dignified Twilight hasn’t ruined the show or anything, but I’d still rather have Fun Twilight back.

I believe when I was referring to a main protagonist, I was refurring to Twilight. Most protagonists are strong willed and free spirited. Most. Twilight on the other hand is a hyper dependent ‘princess’ that the writers decided to pair up with a Ken doll.

What I meant by that is this didn’t become a huge problem until things like Crystal Empire and Equestria Girls came up, and completely threw Twilight’s impressionable ego onto the wrong track for at least a season or two.
 
…Sorry, I’m sleepy, exhausted, and also I’m sick of sugar-coating and dancing around the issue of how much of a protagonist Twilight Sparkle isn’t. Main or otherwise. Is there even a point to her character now that Sunset has been showcased as a protagonist? Why did they have her fall in love with the guy with zero personality? It seems the more she’s forced into the spotlight, the less of a character we actually find.

Heh, sad but true. He’s the proud, shining example of moral and all-around mediocrity.  
So what does that say about Twi? Are they attracted to each other by their respective lack of depth? That doesn’t sound right, but neither does it sound completely false. :/

I agree completely. Morally, he’s pretty okay, but his personality and feelings are way too petty and shallow. If the next movie allows him to be deeper a character, I’m all for it.

I was actually looking at the scenes objectively. With both his actions toward Sunset and Twilight were more cruel then competitively mean, especially when you consider he was still nice to Twilight when she wasn’t an obstacle remember?
 
The spell didn’t turn everyone “Evil”, it just turned them overall angry and competitive with no inhibitions. Do you honestly think high school kids filled with irritability and no inhibitions doing sabotaging pranks takes a special kind of evil?
 
Hell even Adagio established that all they were doing to school kids was giving them an instant ‘worst day, lash out at friends’ attitude, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to absorb the Mane 6’s energy by manipulating them into that state without directly using their magic. The only ones they had to actually control were Principal Celestia and Luna.
 
If he was unassociated with them it would make no difference. I simply found nothing redeamable about Flash Sentry. This has nothing to do with the OOC picture above, he’s just an overall unlikable and shallow character in the movie. Sure he’s not a dick normally, but his personality traits when uninhibited and angry kind of speak for themselves.
 
 
As for Sunset, of course some people are going to be overprotective. But despite how badly written the first EG movie was, with Rainbow Rocks and her IDW comic(combined with Twilight’s current issues) we can easily how Sunset got where she was and how realistic it is that she doesn’t want to be that person anymore when the Elements of Harmony, like Luna, caused her to see herself and her life through unclouded eyes as if she looked at a Mirror of Truth.
 
She actually is currently a well-written, consequence driven protagonist. Characters like Flash and Twilight don’t live in a consequence driven world, we’ve known that for a long while.
 
And as for the others, I’ve forgiven characters like Gilda and Trixie long, long ago, and many others have as well. Unfortuantely they haven’t gotten around to Gilda yet, despite the fact she was an “antagonist” who, despite being messed up socially, sincerely cares deeply about one of the main characters.

I got the impression that he had been resenting them for a while before the green fog hit the fan, but trying to keep it down.
 
It’s worth noting that he did have a legitimate grievance against Sunset. She used him to prop up her image and tossed him aside when she was done. And of course, by the time Sunset had her change of heart and they could have theoretically talked about it, the anti-Sunset mood at the school probably would have prevented it even if he’d wanted to. Hopefully at some point they can sort it out and be civil (not necessarily friendly, just civil)to each other.
 
As for Twilight, he seemed to be getting a little weird about her while she was gone, and once she came back he seemed angry that she’d appeared out of the blue on someone else’s team. I guess I can see how that might hurt a little, but magic hate fog or not, that’s kinda petty. Twilight doesn’t belong to you, Flash, she can go where she wants (Well, that’s not entirely true, “heavy is the head” and all that, but my point is it’s none of his business.)
 
Do better next movie, Flash.

I think it’s just the fandom in general. I mean, people still hate Gilda solely for the reason that she made Fluttershy cry by being rude.
 
Sunset had a rather sincere redemption too, which can help people like her more. Not when she was pathetically whimpering in the bottom of the crater though, only when she started doing cute shit in the sequel… Other characters that people hate though, like Blueblood, Gilda, etc, just straight up disappeared after the episode where they upset the waifu.

I meant the so-called “abuse” she already got in the movie… Seriously, I think some real-life teens have actually had things worse then her at school. (At least, people didn’t get physically-violent with her, and such. Things could’ve been much worse…)

You might be right… I have nothing against her. Though, I hate to say it, but I’m almost starting to miss the days back when Sunset was hated. (Due to all the over-protectiveness…)  
Ironically, people used to hate her for the same “reasons” as Flash. I remember people saying she was “boring,” a “cliche’ alpha-bitch school villain,” and such back even before the first EqG movie came out.
 
Also, if people are so willing to easily forgive Sunset for all her past misdeeds, (which included doing alot of nasty things to Twilight, ruining friendships, cheating her way to popularity, slandering/lying about others, trying to enslave the whole school, and even try to kill the Mane 6) why aren’t they so forgiving of other characters?  
Like say, all the ones who wronged Sunset in the movie, and that controversial comic issue, though I’d rather not bring that drama here.

You are aware he was under the evil influence of the Sirens right? Even the CMC, and other characters were “jerks” while under the influence. Some even did worse things then he did, and actually tried to sabotage the Rainbooms, and such.
 
Is it me, or are people getting waaaay to overprotective of Sunset? I’m starting to find her a bit more annoying then Flash because of that honestly… Plus it’s like people act like she’s completely innocent now, forgetting all the things she did in the previous movie, so she’s no “innocent angel” herself… So it’s not like the school had no reason to dislike her, or not trust her. The Siren’s influence just multiplied that distrust to extreme levels.
 
I mean, Sunset during her “evil final boss” form in the first movie tried to kill the main-6, yet Flash or anyone who doesn’t adore Sunset is somehow the “almighty evil one?” Maybe she kinda needed to be nocked down a few pegs to cement her “heel-face-turn” more.

In all serious-ness though, over dramatic evil representation of him aside, I was surprised how a competitive-spell was enough to make him say such cruel, shallow things to Sunset and Twilight in Rainbow Rocks once they were part of the competition.
 
Anger and hate is natural, but when the thing behind the anger floodgate is cruelty, that tells you something. Hate is universal, but you have to have a knack for true cruelty. I merely didn’t like his reason for existing in Equestria Girls, but only in Rainbow Rocks did I actually find a reason for hating him as a character.
 
He’s not cartoonishly evil, but I sincerely despise him as a character now.
 
Its as if they created a character with no strong morals at the core at all, designed only to advance the (romance) plot…

…And then they semi-tried to pair him with who?; Based only on physical attraction, knowing nothing about each other yet they both still tried to kiss with no apology or anything? Twilight Sparkle.
 
 
My god..he’s not just the token love interest to Twilight, he’s a SATIRE on Twilight. The Ken to her Barbie.
