>religion in the commentsUh oh, it’s the atheist inquisition.
This now makes me wonder if “Stone them to death” was meant in another way, like “Stone them, meaning tell them about the word. When they repent, the adulterer is dead and in place of the adulterer is one who isn’t adulterous.” and it was misheard. This adds so much more context to the verse. Previously, I wasn’t aware that the Pharisees were just trying to trap Jesus again as I wasn’t familiar of Roman laws.… And I have to confess that yesterday and the other day I was thinking my neighbor was disturbing (she was yelling “Get the %*$@ in in here” to her young kids) and I said she was disturbing, but I didn’t say that to her. Yet only after I said it was I feeling disturbed. So was that being judgmental/judging like Jesus said to not do? I know discerning is OK, to see what to do and what to not do.
Also, Where does the “Let he who has not sinned throw the first stone” part come in? That puzzled me.
Didn’t you ever read the “Love the sinner, hate the sin” verse? Yes it is in the Bible, you can Google it now. There’s also that other verse where Jesus sits down to eat with a tax collector, if I remember right. See, tax collectors weren’t really thought of as Holy then so they would’ve gotten a lot of flack. Then after that verse a Pharisee (Someone correct me if I remember this wrong) asks something like “How can he sit with such an evil man?” and Jesus says something to the effect of “Those who are well don’t need a doctor. I’m here to heal the sick, to give aid to those who need help.”Really. I may have not read the whole Bible from cover to cover at this time, but I do know that’s all in there.
Ok, that’s the point of what I was saying before. From that Wikipedia page, I’ve found this one that lists all the different Mormons sects alone. There are 85 of them. Many extinct, but most of them based on a single city, or founded by a single preacher and/or led by his descendants.
The Mormon fundamentalists in Bountiful have divided into two groups:
about half are members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS Church),
and the other half are members of the Church of Jesus Christ Inc.,
