You guys are acting like Twilight actually did anything but think Flash was cute and a nice guy. She was attracted to him, and she danced with him. That was it. There is nothing “shallow” about that.
 
Furthermore, it’s absurd to think the “proper” way to go about it would be to “build it up over several seasons”. Do you hear what you’re saying? This is NOT a dating show.
 
If Twilight decides she wants to like Flash, there isn’t a single thing wrong with that. All your derision of him is baseless when you try to pin it on anything but your personal distaste.

You know, it’s kind of tiring seeing art and fanfics that pick on Flash so much. He did have ‘some’ bit of character and reason for being in the first one. Of course, he wasn’t in it a ‘ton’ and we were getting used to the whole ‘human’ thing {which people didn’t like} as well as Twilight crushing on him.
 
Rainbow Rocks was his chance to assuade that anger, like Sunset herself. However, the movie chose not to really follow up on him, which didn’t distill any of the anger. It’s not his fault. The writers just didn’t really include him. It was like ‘Hey guys, Flash is still alive. Just wanted to let you guys know. Back to the movie’ every now and again.
 
I really hope they change that in the third one.

Difference is, those are ships that HAVE been built by the community, fanons, not some character, out of the blue, thrown at a main character suddenly and being all “Canon Crush because….movie needs crush.” also, I think a big part of it is it makes Twilight seem shallow. “I’ve known him less than two days, and I Want him” now, I do know crushes can happen like that, but the character of Twilight does not seem the type to just go for someone immediately like that, especially someone of a species she never knew about until the movie. It would be like seeing an alien, the alien does one nice thing for you, suddenly teh hotness.

Don’t worry, Flash Sentry will be the main character of Friendship Games with lots of character development, that way people will hate him less, but we’ll have to wait until September for that. I also know some people like Pauly Sentry have no problem with him,

Usually those backgrounders have no focus and are visually interesting on their own to make people want to build on them. Flash was front and center and had a painfully obvious role he didn’t fill spectacularly.
 
Some might not see the worth in putting in the same effort reserved for the extras.

I have no problem with Flash Sentry being occasionally treated bad, but what bothers me a lot is when some fans see him more as a bland, generic love interest. Seriously, he’s just like so many background ponies/humans, he could have some character if you guys wanted to build it, just like what you’ve done to those background ponies/humans. But no, you shit him like the most despicable villain and cheer loudly when you see a Flashabuse image.

We are talking about the show, not real life, if they had been building their long and complicated relationship through several seasons step by step, that would be fine, but they pull flash out of their ass and slaped it there like instant Romeo out of the blue like “-sup bby u wan’ sum fuk?” just for the sake of it, it’s an insult to a great developed character like Twilight.
