I legitimately wonder if she’s be able to explode via countdown, if she could only count down verbally. Like, if she doesn’t count down to Zero out loud, that would abort the explosion process.
 
… I’m just imagining her with a tsundere personality, and gets to counting down with someone who she feels mutual affection for, as they approach, trying to make any sort of move.
 
She shouts “THREE, TWO, O~~” he leans in and kisses her, and when they break the kiss, she blushes, gets angry again, and yells “T-TWO, O~~” kiss repeats, longer this time. It breaks, she looks confused, but needy. “… O-On-MMPH!” she gets a much longer kiss from him…
 
… You get how this goes. ;)

She’s a magical explosive pony though. Her head pin makes her behave like a grenade, while her fuse makes her behave like a much larger explosive. Heck, I bet you could hook her up to the detonator for C4 and set her off.

Lol I actually had a buddy of mine who’s military on Skype going into absurd detail about how grenades and explosives work as I drew this (He made a point of telling me the teeth-pull thing does not work, and I always thought pulling the pin itself ignited them until he set me straight, and to describe them as being closer to a champagne bottle popping than an actual “explosion”).
 
For me though, there’s always a matter of substance vs fact. The way I see it she’s a living, breathing, biological pony (as in not a robot or anything like that), who just happens to behave like different kinds of explosives depending on how you set her off. She also acts like the Blast Mask from Majora’s Mask (You could think of her as a ponified version of that, almost) where the explosion happens, the shrapnel flies, or whatever, but when the smoke clears she’s sitting there scuffed up and singed from the blast but otherwise fine. She then reinserts her pin to keep her hair down (thus preventing her from exploding that way again), or waits for her fuse tail to regrow. I mostly gave her the grenade pin hair as a stylistic choice above all else, but figured “why couldn’t that work too?”

She actually enjoys the feeling of exploding. Quite a bit too. She just needs to make sure she does it in the right place and right time. Going to the quarry with a box of matches and something good to blow up is something she loves doing in her spare time (She even invites the friends to come watch). Exploding in the middle of Ponyville because her tail got too close to a lit candle or because she got enraged waiting in line to renew her Carriage License isn’t enjoyable for anyone.

Don’t worry. She can do that without blowing up, if you know what I mean ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) She’s gotten so much better at controlling her spontaneous explosions since attending Vil-Anon.
 
It’s now just anger that does it. Blowing her top will literally make her blow her top. Though you know how some people count to ten when they’re angry? She counts down from ten instead. And it’s not so much her trying to control her anger as a warning to run your fool bum clean off.

You’re all pervs. It’s probably why I love you all so much. Never ever change.

Well no worries. As Badum described. She’s kinda like a Pokémon using Self-Destruct. She’ll create a big explosion, but she herself will just be slightly scuffed up~

Well, given that she’s a grenade, a lit flame on her tail still wouldn’t do it.
 
Shall I talk about how grenades work? Because that’s a bit extreme. Light a flame and that’s okay. Pull the pin and light a flame however…
 
Given that I’ve been forced to throw them, I think I know a bit about how these explode. Outside of army training, a lot of people seem to think that grenades are built to explode one solitary second after they’re activated.
 
Don’t believe the art. I’m army myself, so I know. Grenades are more stable than most think. You can jostle them around and everything. They can bounce around in your bag or pouch or however your commanding officer has told you to carry them. And yes, it’s all about how your commanding officer tells you to carry them.

Holy crap, this is seven months old… and we NEVER got a follow-up!… Kinda amazed by that; the Sphinx has had TWO, but the bomb pony doesn’t even get cuddles?
