You seem to be forgetting that the reason Trixie went off the rails and tortured the rest of the mane six (not to mention taking over all of Ponyville) was because of the amulet that was explicitly said to corrupt the user.

that’s, really far fetched you know.. Tirek was explicitly a criminal and not just any kind of criminal, a dangerous criminal, that’s why he was locked in Tartarus. Trixie compared to that, is a scamp, a nuissance, the only real danger she ever was wasn’t even her, it was the Book in Inspiration Manifestation.

in any case, the only problem I have here isn’t even with her, it’s with the fact that there was a great story to be told here, one about a mentor trainee not knowing what to do in such a peculiar situation and one not about backpedaling on Trixie’s forgiveness, one that may have involved a certain character that knows A LOT about Mentoring and Pupils and Favorite Students and such…. because she could have taught that mentor trainee not to let fears get the better of her, or be all controlling, like she’s always well known to be and to not pressure her pupil the way She wasn’t pressured when she was a pupil..

You keep using that word I don’t think it means what you think it means, Trixie can’t be reformed because she was never actually a villain she wasn’t evil she was controlled by an amulet once that was off she went back to her old self there was no reformation because it wasn’t necessary.
 
I do agree Twilight probably did see Trixie as a possible trigger for Starlight much like Discord reverted back to his ways in the season 4 finale, Trixie is a self absorbed egotistical show off but she’s not a criminal or a villain she never was she’s just kind of a bitch sometimes.

OP here; I was not suggesting Tirek and Trixie are equally menacing, that´d be ridiculous. I am stating how similar this situations are and how they played out. Discord, reformed but discontent with his reformation, is sent to track down a villain and said villain appeals to his past to bring him to his side. Then we have Starlight, another reformed villain who is rejected by society meeting another villain whose reformation is at least questionable, if not non existent. No, apologizing to one of your many victims for torturing her friends is not a reformation. She just ran off. So Trixie still counted as a villain for me.  
That´s the point I was trying to make; Twilight saw the connection and similarities between these two situations and wanted to avoid another reformed foe going astray.

Nope, that was mostly in response to some of the other comments implying that Trixie fans think she’s completely blameless and that we can’t accept any criticism of her without frothing at the mouth with rage.

Trixie is not blameless in any of her appearance’s although she gets a raw deal sometimes.  
Trixie is her own worst enemy and most of her misfortunes are the results of her own actions.
 
I say this as a rabid trixie fan. Trixie is a bigheaded smarmy showpony who is likeable and relateable despite (or maybe because of) her many flaws.
 
I don’t blame Twilight for her reaction to trixie either. Twilight may have forgiven trixie but that didn’t mean she had to like her and she may have been afraid that trixie would be a bad friend who would hurt starlight. Which is what happened, sort of.
 
we all remember what happened last time starlight got hurt by a friend, don’t we?😉  
I’m sure Twilight did and that probably helped influence her behavior.

Viewers need to bear in mind,  
the only thing that Twilight Sparkle saw  
was Trixie being the same old smug arrogant bitch as before.
 
Trixie didn’t show any change of character until she left the castle.  
From Twilight’s PoV, she couldn’t tell if Trixie was legit reformed or not.
 
So, OP does has a good point, Twilight could very well have been considering the mayhem  
that Discord & Tirek caused.

This is dumb. Like all of it, literally.

But it makes for such great drama!

Flipside I could imagine Starlight picturing Twilight’s reaction to the idea of Starlight choosing Trixie over both her and Princess Celestia…and Starlight simply deciding it’d be easier to just deal with Twilight after the fact.

This pretty much sums up my feelings. Including the part about Twi not inviting Celestia to the show, actually. I was pretty convinced for a while that it would go that way, either at Twi’s urging or at Starlight’s. And as much as I disliked Twi in this episode, I am kind of disappointed that Starlight brushed off the dinner without even telling Twi. It’s understandable that she was upset about everything Twi was doing, but still, not the best way to react there, Glimmer!

Starlight Glimmer is just a poor’s man version of Discord. Quickly written and reformed at the same brainstorming session in just a one day.

Hm, yeah. I pretty much agree with this. Not asking anyone else to also agree, just try to understand this perspective.

 
Comparing Trixie to Tirek is beyond ridiculous. And I’m among the (apparent minority of) fans who thinks Trixie was in the wrong during both of her earlier show appearances.
 
Anyway, my problem personally is less with Twilight not trusting Trixie at the start than with her continuing to try to derail the budding friendship even after Starlight Glimmer called her out on her hypocrisy. If you think Twilight was justified (if wrong) in trying to keep Trixie from Glimmer, great, I’m glad you have no problems with her behavior. My opinion is my own, and I’m not going to require others to share it.

Need to defend Twilight is strong apparently. I don’t disagree that she at least had a reason for her distrust, but she is (ahem) the Princess of Friendship so she had the responsibility of acting like a mature adult rather than a paranoid fool.
 
She was the one who in effect pardoned Trixie, she is the one who chose to take Starlight on as a student and tasked her to find a new BFF with an unrealistic deadline, and she was the one who at no point said, “Okay time out”, sit the two down and calmly explain her reservations, and to make allowances as needed.
 
Instead she undermined herself at every turn and it became clear very fast that this was more about her obvious dislike of Trixie and her need to impress Celestia then it ever was about fearing Starlight’s backslide. The best part, at no point did she think to compromise and bring Celestia to Trixie’s show but rather decided it would be better to just yell at Starlight about her choice in friends.
 
You can defend her as much as you want but don’t pretend her actions don’t invite criticism.

Running a way while the person you´ve been tormenting for the past two days hardly counts as reformation. Also, arrogance only? How about using a “soul sucking amulent” (as Trixie put it) to torment others in pretty horrible ways? I´m pretty sure that´d be a crime. Hell, when you think about it, Trixie killed as many people as Tirek did and used as dark powers as him.
