It’s not like the other ponies have to love your sister just because she controls the sun and inadvertently puts food on their tables right? I mean that’s totally not an issue at all right? They really love her because she’s so cool and elegant and collected all the time.

Technically speaking, they haven’t appeared on the show. The whole Fluttershy thing was just magical shenanigans, and the guards from Nightmare Night could have easily just been wearing costumes. I’m not sure if they’ve appeared since, since I don’t watch the show anymore, but for the most part they are a fan art thing. I’m just pointing out that if this comic is going to use Batponies, it creates a huge plothole.

Simple: They didn’t get the idea of bat ponies until season 2, but it was such an inherently cool idea they went for it anyways despite the plot hole.

If you think about it, Bat ponies don’t really make sense in conjunction with MLP’s lore. Why would Luna have felt underappreciated and became Nightmare Moon if there was an entire race of nocturnal ponies to appreciate her night? That’s a huge plot hole.

As Surprise said, it’s pre-authorized as some of these characters you see were auctioned spots in the story or background. Speck, Padlock, Jade Aurora and a couple others are pre-existing ocs of other people, and are tagged in Pencil’s tumblr posts with their respective pages.
