It will be even cuter when they free Anon and Limestone gives him a big happy smile of relief. Only to quickly hide it behind an even cuter grumpy face so he won’t know how worried she was~ =3

No, the bracers are for controlling the human who loses their mind when magical buildup grows too high. It is an ancient relic with safety measures built in, as in, they don’t use their own magic, but tap into the magic of the human they’re attached to and the control spell is as strong as the magic pool of the human is at the time, so when they’re close to exploding, go all ragemode with magical energy corrupting their mind, this spell will still be strong enough to contain them.
Ah, I can see how the clergy may have possibly misinterpreted their own scripture.
The braces are meant for controlling, sure. But for Anon, it’s for him to control his own (immense) magic. But the clergy must’ve thought it was meant for them to control Anon.
And yet– how do both happen? Or is Anon just faking it? Well, that would be anticlimactic.

nice it didn’t go full delusional religious leader to the point they think Celestia was a changeling or some other kind of fake cause she’s not living up to their prophecy.
Can we talk about something that has been bothering me for the last couple of pages? First off I am glad that padlock isn’t a villain, psychotic religious fanatics just don’t make good bad guys in my opinion. A good villain needs a solid foundation for doing what they do, and should be redeemable, even if they are unwilling and never succeed in such. Too often, religious zealots as bad guys tend to only get seen for their actions and rarely their own inner struggles or suffering. Religious upbringings, especially of the older eras tend to involve a lot of brainwashing and negative reinforcement in order to build the next generation to the current’s ideal form. Now let’s take a look at Priestess Padlock. White fur, gold/yellow hued eyes and jet black hair. The white coat and yellow eyes make for a perfect color palette for a worshiper of Celestia, with the black hair being an anchor to remind her that she is not, nor will ever be perfect. This pony could have been picked from childhood and specially groomed for this position, which would explain the oddly intimate knowledge of old scriptures. I sort of cheated and looked at the character tag and saw that her cutiemark is also a lock. How appropriate, a pony LOCKED in a never ending cycle of mindless worship, lies and then instilling that same brainwashing on the next generation, and her cutiemark is a round clipped padlock.
Okay that’s enough of the religious rant. I do feel like this priest may still end up being a villain. She’s being faced with the idea that an important chunk of her teachings could be wrong. I wouldn’t dismiss the idea of her poor little pony mind snapping and trying to fulfill this prophecy.
Or I might just be looking too deep into a cute story about sexy horses.
