They are the inhabitants of lands far beyond the borders of Equestria, through which the Mane 6 will be traveling during their quest.

Yet we seem to be still getting a possible pony antagonist, albeit a edgy one.
Tempest Shadow doesn’t seem to look like any pony in the show.

I’m wondering if Tempest is a foreign variety of pony.

That’s what I was saying, anthro doesn’t equal furry, your terminology is wrong. Like I said Catrina was in previous generations and the show has used characters from previous generations, Tirek, Smooze, Spike. It’s not that surprising they would bring back more creatures from those generations. Even if the design did clash (which I don’t think it does because the dragons have similar postures and poses) it wouldn’t mean it’s a bad thing especially if he’s written well.

Keywords: “traditional sense”. Anthro =/= furry. Yes Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck are anthros, but they aren’t furries. Even if you are correct, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck type characters don’t belong in the Equestrian universe. That’s just turning the show into a kitchen sink fantasy.

^ These guys are not furries. For the most part, if you look into the furry fandom, 98% of the time you are going to come across very elegant, much more humanoid, appealing designs.

The moment these new furry characters walk onto the screen, they are going to clash with the rest of what we’re used to, very, very hard. The writers and designers of this show basically scooped their fingers into the cringey part of the fandom and are dumping the content into the movie.

Now we’re throwing around Mary Sue? You need to actually see what their role is you can’t deduce something like that by their looks.

There’s still more seasons of the show coming and this is the movie they have to take risks, if they just make an hour long version of the show it’s not going to be any good for what is supposed to be a movie, some of us actually want the movie to add something rather than being a rehash of everything we’ve seen already. It’s the MLP movie and probably the only one we’re going to get it’s either go big or go home.

I’d like to get up and out of Ponyville. And exploring entirely new lands around Equestria is a great idea for a new series or next generation of the show. But before we do that, please, can we wrap up the rest of what we already have and get more content about actual Equestria?

These new upright-walking characters we have look very foreign and outside of what we have within Equestria already. It’s a break in consistency and a huge risk. The characters we do have that could belong are far-fetched outside of the norm or appear to be copy-cat characters, types of Mary Sues.

The quality of movie depend if it would utilize both new (cat folk, Harpies, yeti king, this thing) and old ones you mentioned. If it will utilize only new races then it’s a sign of “eh, too bothersome to expand, let’s disregard everything and make outside world from scratch”.

At this point everyone that have doubt about the movie should wait for the novel. Like legend of everfree, the book will come before the movie and probably will have the whole plot of the movie.

If you don’t like the book don’t watch the movie to show that you don’t support it, easy and simple.

I would argue that they’ve fully hinted their being many more sentient species outside of ponies, zebras, griffons, dragons, and yaks, and that world building is something in Faust’s original bible, but they’ve been held back from exploring it because Hasbro wants “slice of life” and less adventure since day 1. Ponies are perhaps the most advanced of any species or the largest, but by no means the only species.

Now they’ve decided to explore that with the movie. That would have had less impact here if they were allowed to touch more on that world building on the show proper. But to suddenly have it on the movie with almost nothing on the show feels like a full turn away from what the show normally runs as. I personally appreciate any world building but this should really be more built into the show, and perhaps S7 will help further.

Fucking excuse me? Middle Earth added lore all the time, there’s is literally an entire book detailing it. And Star Wars exists in fucking space, space, the last true unexplored frontiers. You better believe there are things to add in that.

As for MLP, there’s is very very little we know about it’s world outside of Equestria, which is a country. There is more than enough room to introduce more sapient species, within reason of course but none of the revealed characters exist outside of the realm of possibility for it.

I never said we shouldn’t explore areas outside of Equestria, nor did I ever imply what we have is all we’ve got. If this is exploring a land beyond Equestria or somewhere undiscovered, then that could possibly work. At this point, its the best we can hope for.

I’m cautioning against jamming all of these elements as if they had been there around Equestria all along. More specifically though, the MLP team already failed to expand key character backgrounds, and didn’t deliver on really exploring Equestria more; responsibilities the comics are struggling to fulfill without stepping on hooves from the show. Is it smart to thrust the fandom into an entirely new continent?

If this is what the fandom wants, then by all means, go forth and explore. But my understanding was that the majority of us felt deceived that they advertised exploring new places in Season 6 and we barely got out and about.

None of those are furries, not in the traditional sense.

From as much as I’ve looked over fan-created content, it seems that they decided to look into the fandom to try and get an idea of what we want. Unfortunately, they ended up with looking into the majority of the muck: a red-black edgy OC, furry characters, and villain copy-cats.
