The Storm King’s personal species, genetically created by him to serve as the perfect minions who always obey him 100%, and he indeed named them “Hench-hogs”, to express that they both look like hedgehogs and are his ever loyal, mindless little puppets.
 
Somehow, this makes more sense than it should what with only having a picture of him so far. Then again, he does look mutated quite a bit, even for Equestria’s standards with all sorts of creatures and species this world here has never seen, so this is very much possible.

Star Wars?! You use that as example? Have you even watched Star Wars? There are dozens of wildly different species in the background of Star Wars movies and there were added new ones with every movie!  
Have you even ever paid attention to that?  
If you have, then I have no idea what you are even complaining about here. And if you haven’t, then you should, and learn something about introductions of new species as a means of worldbuilding.

I have no idea what this is….. The first new character I just can’t make any theories about, because I have not even an idea what species that is. Only thing that is clear is that he is a henchpony….. hedgehog….. whatever, of the Storm King, but other than that, I have no clue.  
My friend said he’s a hyena which really fits with that big open mouth and the sardonic smile on it and also fits the rest of the look, so I’m going with that for now.^^
