I highly doubt it, since only Rarity lived in Ponyville. Honestly, I see it was more of a convince than Sunburst, who we learn about before and knew he left for the magic school and never met Starlight again.

Judging by how Celestia only told Twilight “to make friends” knowing she would meet the rest of the Bearers, it probably wasn’t a coincidence. I think a more fitting comparison is how conveniently Celestia decided to send Twilight all her letters when she just happened to be Discorded.

Exactly. If they didn’t try to make us sympathize with the VERY SAME character responsible for all the Apocaliptic AUs in the VERY SAME episode where we see her do all that damage, I would’ve accepted Glimmer much more. But when you give her a very, VERY petty and weak (and frankly stupid) backstory, and then suddenly turn a character than a few minutes ago was roaring about not stopping her revenge… yeah, not everyone digs it. Plus, we don’t actually see those timelines fixed. For all we know, those still exist and are in the same hell as we saw them last time.
 
And it doesn’t help when the premiere has Starlight’s whole subplot be amending things with Sunburst… and conveniently be the only one who can fix the heart while everyone was running like headless chickens.

The things that I don’t like about Glim Glam (in case I wasn’t clear, I LOVE Starlight, she’s my favourite character next to Trixie) are the exact same things that I don’t like about every mlp characters, let’s face it folks, this show is not exactly well written …

Uhmm, I know…? That’s kinda of my point. It’s just that the haters posing as “lovers” are the most annoying. Because in the end, the thing they hate is that people don’t share their exact opinion. And then it doesn’t matter if it’s “stop not liking what I like” or “stop liking what I don’t like.”

To be honest, I wouldn’t really know, I tend to avoid Starlight discussions, because they always devolve into basic namecalling on both parties. Normally I just edit the tags to something appropiate and move along. What caught my notice here was the artist admitting to drama baiting. I mean, fair enough if you don’t care about your waifu favorite character not getting the love you think she deserves (though kudos on OPp for not using the word underrated), but, hey, if your argument is so flawless, why drama baiting?
 
For my self, I don’t really care about Starlight. She was a decent antagonist in the S5 premiere. I loved the S5 final, both the AUs and Starlight as a smug snake. The major blunder was her extremely weak motivation/excuse for villainy (basically being too stupid to know how a damn letter worked) and sudden reformation. If they didn’t have the time for a propper reformation/redemption in the two-parter (and, really they didn’t, with all they tried to cram in there. And, make no mistake, all the AUs were awesome! Especially Nightmare Moon.) why not make a season cliff-hanger? Shove all that Starlight past crap into the S6 premiere, and give both her past and redemption the room it needed to breathe (I mean, Sunset’s redemption took an entire movie, and was awesome). Would probably work all the better in the end.
 
As for what little I’ve seen (keeping the above in mind) from Starlight fans, they love Starlight, and generally dismiss all criticism and dislike as “hating”, “whining” and “being salty.” By all means, they should love Starlight, flaws, strenghts and all! I mean that’s why I like Applejack, Luna, Soarin’ and Derpy. Have fun with your favorite character! Ship them, headcanon them, love seeing them! It’s when it comes to accepting other people not adoring the character, that Starlight fans seems to become salty themselves. Case in point:@Ricku

Yeah, her backstory is severely lacking, and we mostly see her when she successes, fails, or uses magic. Still, seeing her struggle to be good is part of what I like about her, and I hope that she never truly becomes a good person, since she would lose what I love about her the most.

Alright, time for fair play. Since I love Starlight, I should also say what I don’t like about her.
 
Her backstory is severely lacking a few steps. While I can see her losing Sunburst as a starting point for her eventual absolute hatred of Cutie Marks, the way it was presented shows the same level of logic as “Donald Trump as President = Actual Nazi Germany.” Further, we don’t know Starlight beyond her faults and strengths. We don’t know what she likes to do for fun, for instance. I’d like to know her as a person and not as a story element.
 
What brought me around to loving her was patience. I’ve shown patience, tranquility, and a sense of humor throughout every patch of fandom drama; the buildup to the royal wedding, Princess Twilight Sparkle, the library getting blown up, and now this. Now I look upon those who seek drama and couldn’t type a reasonable argument with a gun to their head, and laugh.
 
The way I see it, if they have such a hair-trigger temper over My Little Pony not appeasing their every desire, maybe they didn’t like the show in the first place as much as they thought.

Eh, if I’ve learned anything from this fandom, it’s that “X lovers” are far, far more annoying than “x haters”. They will continue to defend their object long after all opposition have stopped caring. And if you don’t oppose them, you’ve caved to their “superior” arguements, if you do oppose them you’re being salty. See also “drama” vs “drama drama” in the tags.
 
Actually makes me nostalgic for the Star Trek fandom. At least Janeway/Enterprise/DS9 (that’s me, btw) fanatics were able to have aknowledge their faults, and trade snark and jokes without perceiving any malice on their counterparts.

Seeing that we she stills abuses magic, I think we are suppose to want to see her improve instead of just love her, kind of like Zephyr. She still has a way to go.

All she did in the premier was chat with Sunburst and informed him of the Crystal Heart, and she was one of the rag-tag team in the final since the Mane Six got the princess treatment. And other than those, she only appear in a few episodes, some of which she never spoke. I mean, if you introduce a character, you want to give them screen time for development.

I blame how rushed her redeption was in “Cutie Remark”, ESPECIALLY when that whole episode made her despicable. But yeah, the biggest reason I can’t get to like her is that unnecessary push they give her to be “the solution” or “the savior of the day”. Like I said, the same way the WWE pushed Roman Reigns (although not so sure now if it’s as bad as his case…)
