Sure if take just that line, and disregard my later attempts to explain, yeah, I admit it sounds bad.
 
My point was that, as far as I have seen, any criticism of Starlight seems to be dismissed as “hating”, and given the same response as genuine “hate”. So ofcourse people will see a lot of hate if a simple “I’m not exactly hyped about this Starlight episode” is enough. Take the discussion in the “A Royal Problem”. Several people said they would be more hyped if Starlight wasn’t part of it, and expressed some issues with the overall idea. That was apprently enough for hating. Sometimes people just don’t like the same things as other people. Not because they hate it, just because it doesn’t interest them.
 
And to reiterate my stance: I don’t hate Starlight, I don’t love her either. I actually find her rather un-interesting/entertaining. She does however make seem to make other characters shine more by interacting with them. I’ve actually started to like Trixie a lot more after she became friends with Starlight.

There aren’t enough words in the English language to to describe how absurdly wrong Soarin is. X haters go out of their way to annoy the Hell out of everyone and are ALWAYS the ones to throw the first punch by doing so. No matter how bad X lovers are, X haters are ALWAYS worse.

Yeah, sure. Folks have clearly stopped caring. Their constant complaining every time something they don’t like comes up is pretty damning……
 
Real talk though, I personally think Haters are much more annoying. In my experience, they do the same exact thing you claim fans do. But give fans credit, at least they do it out of love. Nothing can justify nor excuse hatred. And fans tend to respond to irrational hate rather than start shit more often that not. From what I’ve seen, haters are almost always starting it.
 
But I’m gonna do what haters never do and put my personal bias aside for a moment and look at it as objectively as possible: Fan and haters are just as bad as each other. Not one is better than the other. Maybe more tolerable than the other depending on your experience. But they are both equally as bad.

I don’t know about all of y’all but I love Glim Glam’s existence. Personally feelings about Starlight aside, I haven’t seen the fandom have this much good discussion and material ever before her full existence came to be.  
I largely say this by the simple fact that for it’s been far more constructive than before, IMO. Far too often in the past there has been just a clear split of “burn it or love it, neither come out with much”, but since final season 5/season 6 their has been more digestible material born. The middle ground has been far more pronounced now than ever, in many ways those that like/love and those who dislike/hate both grown attached quite attached to niches of her existence (again not just her character and history, her existence), and there has been a surge of alternate takes, interpretations, “fixes”, personal routes, that I’ve love seeing in controversial matters such as this.  
Sure there where things like Shining/Cadance, Discord going good, princess twi, etc etc, and while I agree that the lows weren’t as low with those outburst as Glim’s but the highs have far exceed any of the others. Hell even the poo flinging from both sides has been more entertaining to me than most of this or other fandoms’ common squabbles.

You hear it all the time, magic expert even though she’s infamous for screwing up spells or using them wrong, princess of friendship even though she treats like some kind of programming you can just apply to people and baffled by it’s inexactness, and one I recently thought about: being obsessed with scheduling but never schedules sleep and is about to try and multitask one full day with a baby on board.
