I think this will end only when some form of confirmation is given. I dont care either way, but one thing thats in my mind is this. Feburary is the month of valentines Day, so if Equestria Girls is around for then, we may see something interesting.

Statistically, someone is going to unfortunately decide to be “that guy”, and because of the sheer size of our fandom, there will always be a surplus of those people somewhere or another.
Some people are practically addicted to their own obstinance even when they have nothing solid to back themselves up. It might not be that they even care that much about the subject all the time, some people get off just being stubborn about their opinion. :/

I can see where you’re coming from that it may not be so viable for the writers to be explicit in a children’s cartoon if they wanted to make an LGBT couple currently, due to the potential backlash from some parents, but stuff that will be interpreted differently by different people like this doesn’t make anything canon, it just leaves it open to interpretation so that some people will see them as friends and some people will see them as lovers.
Invoking the “It’s canon” card on something is essentially saying that it’s factual, which is clearly not the case here, as there’s more than enough room for more than one interpretation of this.
