Also, seeing how a Background Pony recently reacted by going I DONT LIKE IT THEREFORE ITS NOT CANON MCCARTHY DOESNT KNOW WHAT SHES TALKING ABOUT to the news that EqG is, in fact, canon…

Admittedly, it’s a headache, but ultimately it’s likely best if it remains open to interpretation, so people can believe they are either friends or lovers as they wish. Besides, the drama would be a hundred times worse if it was confirmed or denied at this point.
Of course, this nonsense is going to pop up every time these two interact from here on out, which will be frustrating to watch unfold.
That’s something that bugs me. Having Lyra and Bon Bon be very very close friends is pandering, but I don’t see how it’s an inherently bad thing. The rest of the short is of their scalating rivalry, not an animated adaptation of a fanfic or something.
I fail to see the problem of a few little shout outs, especially since it’s clear the writers enjoy it too.
You know, I always see people saying this, but they never explain themselves. Obviously it’s bad if they go way overboard with it, but I honestly don’t understand how any pandering at all is always bad.

I hope something is confirmed, does not matter whether lesbian or not, because alot of the drama regarding these two is getting ridiculous and out of hand. :(
@Background Pony #1E73
Ultimately though, the only fair interpretation at this point is that it’s open to interpretation. Writers have decided to invest in the idea of these two being close, and whether or not that is as friends or lovers is very much open to interpretation, until they come out and say which one it is one way or another.
@Ultra64
Anyone who’s claiming that their ship is canon based on stuff like this is also shoving their headcanon down peoples throats. Both sides of the debate are very much guilty of that.
It would be nice. The only real obstacle, I think, is the fact there might be a hit in toy sales from angry heteronormative crusader parents — unless I’m mistaken, neither Steven Universe nor LoK have a toyline, and less were created with the primary porpuse of selling and promoting toys. Demographics might also have to do.
@SentryBronyPlatinum
I also don’t ship Lyrabon and do ship Flashlight, and yet my opinions are sometimes treated like the worst possible thing/wrong. shrugs
You know, the FiM fandom reminds me a bit of (what I’ve been told by veteran fans and what I’ve seen in a few blogs) the Sailor Moon fandom.
Who would think TV shows for children that preach values of friendship, love, perseverance, reaching for your dreams, etcétera, would spawn fandoms that can be terribly, awfully toxic to both outsiders and fellow members?
