Pretty much this, I know that there are developmental issues like attention span involved in the overusage of smartphones, and these days there are algorithmically engineered places like TikTok that do their best to get you hooked on them.

When I brought up reading books at school that were fantasy I was considered an idiot nerd, when I read cartoons they all supposedly rotted my brain. It’s the same thing over and over again, a cycle that I don’t want to partake in.

People who go on in their 20s to 30s already about “kids these days” because of their environment being different clearly omit how things they did as a child were also considered stupid/dumb/dangerous/ruining society. Break the cycle, raise above.

Guys, are we the boomers?

This is just the beginning. Once G6 comes out (or rather, if G6 comes out) there will be a meme just like this comparing the mild phone addicted children to the children who never take off their VR headsets or whatever new tech becomes normal.

I hate smartphones. I wish they never existed and all of us were satisfied with dumbphones.

the greatest adventure kids went on in the 90s was chrono trigger.

All three of my nephews have unregulated access to their phones. I’d say that they spend like 10% on them and on youtube then get bored and go do something else. They’re more interested in camping and fishing, wrestling, experiencing the world, hanging out with friends, ect. Maybe you only see the times that they’re on the phone and that just says more about your parenting ability or ability to notice things?

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen my niece or nephew watch a cartoon or read a book for the joy of it.

It’s always weird Tik tok stuff with no context or cringey YouTubers. I try to introduce them to stuff with an actual narrative and good characters but they haven’t got the attention span.

What can you do? That’s just how thing are now.

2010s the last decade of adventurous kids. Well it was the transition that started since the late 90s. But by 2020 the process had finally ended. Now the electronic tyranny has begun.
