Sprout literally shows up in Chapter 1 when Earth Ponies get the floral magic. He also shows up in his mom’s factory when Sunny & Co. try to renovate it and many other appearances. He is mostly in the background but he does have a few episodes with a more direct role. Personally my only issue is that it seems he didn’t really get much punishment for his actions from the movie outside of being demoted. He has yet to show up in TYT though.
Personally, I would’ve liked to see him try to make up for literally destroying Sunny’s house and most of her father’s life’s work.

Hmm, there is Sprout in Make Your Mark ;) A few episodes: Growing Pains (chapter 1),
The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over (Chapter 2), Winter Wishday (Chapter 3), Top Remodel (Chapter 4), Cutie Blossom Bash (Chapter 5), Nightmare on Mane Street (Chapter 5), Mane Smelody (Chapter 5), Roots of All Evil (Chapter 6, parts 1 and 2). Mostly on background but he sometimes talks and stuff.

Yeah G5 has other issues that the “phone addicted children” isn’t really so bad. In fact I don’t mind the Pippsqueak trio.
Honestly though while I have my issues with G5, Izzy and the Royal Sisters more than make up for it.
Also might I add, there’s like zero episodes of either TYT or MYM that feature Sprout. I get people probably didn’t like him but if you can redeem Starlight and Sunset, you can redeem Sprout.

Nice to meet you, I’m same age! I always knew there’s some technology in my home, dad is a programmer, and woah I do remember floppy disks…
We’ve got first phones (this is Russia so foreign things get to us later) in ~2005, for us with mom to communicate due to me going to school. First video games were really cool, even if simplified. And my first attempt to go online ended up draining all money from SIM xdd It was fun.
I still didn’t get online on PC until 2009+2012. And when I saw internet for real, I was amazed, simply put it was a miracle lmao.

I just wish we’d get more episodes with them! I quite love them and they’re relatable to new generation of kids (and to myself too, because tbh we all use phones).

As a fan of both those gens I would defend Glory, Seashell, and Peach Fizz…but they’ve really not anything with their characters beyond that stereotype. Here’s to hoping though.

i do not regret i had the same childhood, getting active is part of my childhood even as a city kid and feels so good to think back. In my opinion its important as a part of growing up

I get that generations change, but when it comes to a fantasy show taking place in a world of magic, I don’t think there should be this heavy of a focus on social media, or phones. In a fantasy world there is literally no reason to stay on social media when you can fly or use magic, especially in this generation where earth ponies can use magic now as well.

I don’t watch shows to remind myself of what I’m doing Irl, I watch shows to experience an interesting world and story in a universe that’s better than mine, I pick up my phone when I’m bored or want to talk to friends or share something I’ve created here on Derpibooru, on DeviantArt Furaffinity etc, when the world is easily accessible and when all your friends are close by why the hell would anybody have a need for it? Just comes off as an unnecessary reference to real life, and don’t we watch shows like this to escape from reality to begin with?

Writers really need to stop focusing this heavily on current day trends, it’s a good way to kill the rewatchability of your series. Look at all the cringe shows from the 70’s and 80’s that focus on trends from back in the day, I don’t think I need to convey why they don’t hold up today.

Friendship is Magic didn’t focus on trends and when they came up, they were never a significant addition to the plot or focus of the episode nor did it ever take up much screentime, usually one-off jokes or scenes; and that is why Generation 4 will stand the test of time this has always been a problem with Hasbro, they focus too hard on trends to be “hip” with their, at the time “modern audience”. It was thanks to Lauren Faust that we got a great pony series. The story she crafted didn’t try to focus on trends or current day topics her series stood on its own and could be easily enjoyable regardless of the generation that watches it. Thats the mark of a good series!

Don’t alienate anybody, be they a past present or future audience, your series doesn’t need to pander to trends if you’re confident enough with the story you’re putting out there, and apparently Hasbro isn’t.

As a millennial this hits hard.

I remember when cell phones first came out. Almost nobody had them, they were flip phones or your basic cordless phone. But now we have social media, texting, etcetera.

You may wonder what I think of Hasbro bringing cellphones into MLP and I don’t mind. If Equestria had arcades and video games back in the day, who’s to say they shouldn’t be more advanced 100+ years past G4?

At the same time, it’s rough knowing kids can literally learn everything they need to know in life from the web.

The biggest problem is…I think you’ve pretty much hit the nail right on the head there. And that’s what’s really sad about the whole issue, that we’ve become the old fogeys who are out of touch with today’s society.

Every generation thinks it’s something that’ll never happen to them, and yet…it’s almost as inevitable as death and taxes. xD

I tihnk ultimately we’re either just jealous or scared of changes. I mean suddenly it’s so conveient to receive that message you wanted to answer so much in school, or suddenly everyone can just take a picture anywhere and doesn’t need to spend extra money for a camera. We’re so angry toward this because this wasn’t like it for us back in the days and now we want to stigmatize a target as easy as a show about little ponies. It’s basically the same as when parents told us “Back in my days we didn’t even have TVs or computers. You kids nowadays have it so easy” and now it’s our turn to be the annoying parents that don’t shut up about how days used to be and how we’re “so much better” because we somehow had it harder and like the idea of sounding superior to others no matter how long it’s been, despite the fact that we don’t know the details of everything and are too stubborn to understand. It’s easier to keep beating others down tahn trying to get with the times.

Anyway remember guys, phones bad and outside good. Go on an adventure to make the most of your life!

Well yes, you’re not wrong there - I do sound incredibly old and the kids in the troop always tell me that I’m horribly out of touch with modern tech and social media. (Remember - I’m 40). I don’t own a mobile phone (at all), and have the opinion that if tech isn’t broken, you shouldn’t replace/throw it. Thus this computer I’m typing on right now is actually nearly 11 years old, and still working just fine (even though most kids would say “Why not throw it out and get a newer model?” Because I don’t need to!)

The problem is that all of this tech has now converged and become so small, so compact, that you can carry it with you and remain connected to social media at all times. If I wanted to check my email when I was a kid, or call anybody, I had to go find a computer to access my email, or wait til I got home to use the phone. Or heck, use a PAYPHONE (most children now wouldn’t even recognise a payphone or know how to use it, not to mention there are very few even still in service). So constantly staring at their smartphone is normal for them, because it connects them to literally everything that’s important to their generation.

I get it, this is totally a generational thing, and I am well and truly part of the old generation that doesn’t “get” the new tech and the new social norms of the kids I’m looking after. This is not a new thing, but it is something that’s been accelerating for several decades now…I just wonder, how much further will it go? Will we reach the singularity in our lifetimes? And will WE, the older generations, even be able to share in that experience if we are around when/if it happens?

This has been my PONE-TED Talk, I guess. xD

I’m 25 years old. I don’t even know whether I’m a millennials or gen z or whatever label we’re trying to put on people nowadays, but honestly the way we act like this toward technology really makes us sound pretty old. I mean we should know phones are just smaller verions of computers which we used to look at all the time too, right?
