I’d say we far exceeded that a long time ago.

Pretty much what I figured was how it slotted in.  
It’s like how in the DC Universe what was the official fate of the character Krona (before he was brought back after “Blackest Night).The events that led to that occurred in a crossover with the Avengers and the Marvel Universe, which couldn’t be mentioned, although what happened to him was referenced.  
So the outcome remained the same, even if the details aren’t touched upon. Or whatever.
