I love it when people make sweeping generalizations about large groups of people. They never seem to realize that opinions and the reasons behind those opinions can vary even within the same demographic.

I just love it when bronies rage like whiny little girls at Meghan. She has them wrapped around her finger and can make them do whatever she wants.

“Besides, we already had this lesson in winter wrap up, which did it much better btw.”
This is true, yes… Though I’m just trying to be optimistic. I’d like to believe the show isn’t getting worse.

Considering I haven’t really watched much since the start of season 3, well… I’m terrible at being an optimist.

>Well, it’s not like there aren’t an princesses in real life who basically don’t do anything. Modern royalty has basically no power these days. Sure, they’re technically the head of state, but most important work is done by Parliaments and other legislative bodies.

I don’t see what any of this has to due with Equestria’s princesses. Sunbutt and Moonbut are co-heads of state while Heartbutt is the leader of the Crystal Empire. I don’t expect Twilight to take over for Celestia on day one but I would like to see her do some actual princess stuff. Like acting as an ambassador to the griffin kingdom or something. Hell, Twilight acting as princess for a day while the sisters go on vacation seems like a goldmine of comedy and character development.

I may not like Twilicorn, but I would facepalm so hard of the show went back to status quo after the inevitable 2-part opener, acting as if this whole “muh destiny” and “we’re all your students now, Twily” stuff never happened.

@Zennistrad
And you just nailed the whole problem of this Twilicorn thing right on the head. The fact that it presents you with a no-win situation and leaves you with nowhere to really go after that.
And the fact that it was done in the most contrived, most rushed, most asinine manner doesn’t help matters either.

@Background Pony

If that was supposed to be the lesson of EQG… then that’s got to be without a doubt one of the most forced things I’ve ever seen. Next to Magical Mystery Copout that is.

First as I said she really didn’t even do much of any “leading” at all. She just let everyone else come up with stuff and went with it. And even the “rewarding” goes flat since what was the real payoff?
Getting the crown back? She would have gotten that back anyway all things considered. (If she hadn’t won the Prom, Not-Diamond Tiara would have just transformed into furry demon anyway, initiate “elements inside us” asspull, etc.) Going to the dance afterwards (which is enough of a contrivance as it is)? don’t need to be a leader to do that.

Besides, we already had this lesson in winter wrap up, which did it much better btw.

I’d like to see an episode centered around Twilight learning what being a full fledged princess would entail, so she can take over at some point. (Hopefully not during the show’s run, of course…)

You know, instead of “Hey, you’re a good student, you’re in a charge”, having some steadily build up to the eventual position.

Sure, they’re technically the head of state, but most important work is done by Parliaments and other legislative bodies. It’d probably be the same way here, Celestia and Luna are definitely still the ones who are really in charge.

Plus, from what we’ve seen in the show, being a Princess doesn’t necessarily mean immediately getting involved in leadership. She was nothing more than a foalsitter for Twilight when she was young.

@Zennistrad
Except I’m not upset. I’m just pointing out that there’s really no reason to declare “It’s ponies, it’s not going to be realistic!”

Besides, there’s the possibility of a compromise. There have been episodes dealing with Twilight getting in over her head with her responsibilities before. They could least touch on the issue that being a leader doesn’t mean doing nothing.

@Zennistrad
It’s a valid question though. Does Twilight’s princesshood entail her actually doing some leadership stuff? Or will she be a princess-in-name-only who’s literally just the same ol’ librarian, but with wings and a fancy title, with status quo being restored?

So if Twilight’s leadership is portrayed realistically, people will complain that she doesn’t get enough time with her friends, but if she does get to spend time with her friends, people will complain that it’s not realistic.

It’s like you people are LOOKING for things to be upset about.

I think the real question is, why the fuck is everyone taking this so seriously? MLP has never had any real intelligent narrative, it’s a show about a bunch of quirky characters getting in various hijinks, with only occasional save-the-world plots that lack any real substance.

MLP isn’t about narrative, it’s about characters and humor.

@Zennistrad
You mean the show with characters that have personality depth and reaction realistically to problems in their life?

Why WOULDN’T they delve into that issue? “It’s difficult to be a leader, but it can also be very rewarding.” Excellent lesson, right there.

Maybe not in real life, but this is a fucking cartoon about magical talking horses in a brightly-colored fantasy land. Realism should be the last thing you should expect.

Really, at this point I think you’re just grasping at straws trying to find reasons to complain about the fact that things have changes.

Oh pish posh, teenagers are fucking idiots. Especially in groups.

The fact that we have Justin Bieber as a thing is enough of a testament to that.

Besides, Rarity was pretty much the one who did all the work (again.) Twilight just went along for the ride. (as always.)
