And yes, I’ve learned that a large portion of the fandom hates, mocks, or otherwise disapproves of DerpDink; that’s pretty much the case with any fanon, really. Or with anything in canon, even.

Since just about as long as I’ve been in this fandom, I have loved seeing mother-daughter interactions between Derpy and Dinky. You have all made such beautiful things, and it still fills my heart with joy to see them, even if my interest in the show itself has largely waned. It does me good to see that someone at the show likes it too.

What happened here?

Sibsy was a Storyboard artist for this one so if you hate the pandering then perhaps knowing that she no longer work for MLP will ease Your pain and demands to fire her. It wasn’t the first time She took something from the fandom and put it on screen. Dislestia flower scene was also her thing and it’s not like any of these small pandas are explicit and confirmed anything. It’s only one harmless Derpy/Dinky scene. New storyboard artists and Director Danny Lu will probably stick to the basics since they probably don’t dwell deep in the fandom whie Sibsy was very active with the fanbase on DeviantArt.

What, pointed out how silly it is that so many people act like they have a signed letter from Lauren Herself declaring that this kin!ship really is real for reals and is totally canon an’ stuff, and go on and on and on and on about it like of course it’s _~special~ and can totes be taken for granted that everyone in the fandom universally loves it and ships it too, rather than it being just another ship like any other? Yeah, I’ve done that before. Probably at some point I’ll also remark on the tendency of DerpDink shippers to absolutely lose their minds whenever anyone voices dislike of the ship or has the temerity to point out that the two of them have never even been in the same scene– much less on screen at the same time– before this.
 
TL;DR: the kin!ship was based on absolutely nothing prior to this episode, and is not in fact as universally beloved as its adherents seem to think.

I do love how when there’s been lots of evidence to this caliber or better showing Dinky as being Golden Harvest and Written Script’s child, the fandom denied it till they were blue in the face. However one scene with them in the Background like this and everyone is shouting “IT’S CANON!”. Never change fandom, ya’ll are fun to watch.
