Unfortunately there’s no way to unsubscribe from an image, so when someone restarts an old argument conversation, everybody who subscribed has to re-live the trauma again.

Sorry about that; someone was trying to restart an old fight by being unnecessarily taunting and belligerent about it on a long-played-out image, and mods took offense to my attempt to deflate that new argument by steering it away from “let’s restart this old argument” into “don’t be That Guy who tries to restart old arguments” instead. Apparently the state the mods must have a monopoly on power snarky animated zombie GIFs.
 
…Back on topic then, this is still a silly kin!ship and always has been; it was based entirely on people with poor color sense mistakenly thinking that Derpy and Dinky had similar palettes (they don’t) and compounding that mistake by insisting that similar pallettes imply family relation (they absolutely did not at the time, and the show has only recently and intermittently started moving new family relationships in that direction). It also had to wait nearly four years to meet even the most basic and bottom-floor standard for any kind of ship: Standing Next To Each Other™. Everyone’s welcome to their own headcanon and can ship whoever they want however they want, but DerpDink shippers in particular are even worse than Rarijack True Believers about insisting that their pet ship Really Is Real For Reals whether anyone else accepts it or not.

I do understand that and don’t even disagree with it, which is why I only ever throw a thread necro GIF at new-comments-on-old-images that come across as deliberate attempts to rekindle long-dead arglebargle. Comments like “And it was also fun to read the comments of the opposing fraction here when they couldn’t take the near confirmation” and “Derpy & Dinky for life! Their Best Daughter/Best Mother reign shall be glorious!” seem pretty obviously calculated to restart hostilities.

If you haven’t noticed, comment threads don’t automatically lock simply because they haven’t had a reply in so long…. There’s a reason for that.
 
If someone tries to restart shit, we’ll deal with it. But people are free to comment on images otherwise, no matter how long ago the preceding comment was made.

Well, it’s good to know that official mod policy now is to encourage restarting months-old arguments with provocational thread necroing.
