I’m not claiming it’s the same thing. It was just interesting tidbits that I dropped because the guy I was responding to claimed that EG took place on our world because they said the word Latin. I just brought up instances on the show where they make references to the real world. Nothing more.

If it were it would have to be by the Plains. Small towns that size with a metropolitan area should have a major highway. Also, geographically wise, the setting maybe taking place North West or North East.

We could just excuse the writer mistake by saying that Prance pony France and human France have the same name through coincidence, sorta like Austria and Australia have similar names by coincidence.

Just because they call it “Earth” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the same Earth, the word “earth” by definition means soil, dirt, etc. and humans simply decided to call the planet that, dirt. Who says the ponies didn’t do the same?
 
Also, terrible town. Wouldn’t wanna live there. Is it confirmed that the town’s name is Canterlot though?

France got its name from a Germanic tribe called the Franks.

I’m surprised that there is no major Interstate. The suburbs surround the city, but the city should have an existing major highway. How else would there acquire goods and services for economic growth. If not maybe a rail yard to contain the freight or an airport and I don’t see one on this map, not even a small airfield. There is only a main street.

Earth comes from the fact that we call dirt earth. In fact, “earthquake” uses that meaning of the word, so it’s more “dirtquake” than “[planet we live on]quake”. So an earthquake on Mars, for example, is still an earthquake.
 
It’s the same as how that The Moon and a moon both use the same word, even though one describes Luna (astronomical body, not the princess) and the other is any chunk that meets certain criteria that orbits a planet.
 
So calling it “earth” is actually still accurate even if the planet is called, say, Equus. “earth” means dirt. Earthmovers move dirt, not our planet.
 

 
As for France… where did France get its name?

It’s not as if the lore and worldbuilting in MLP is all that deep either. It’s mostly just a bunch of random fantasy elements and locations that happen to not clash. all the supposed depth is mostly just fan speculation and “analysis”.

I never claimed it is. I’m just saying that the show is packed full of references to the real world. I mean at face value Equestria just seems to be a horse-like version of the US complete with American monuments and corny puns for American cities. Maybe if you’re into crack theories you could say that Equestria is the result of a post-apocalyptic event.
 
In the case of EG there’s no lore and no worldbuilding. There’s been a few hints here and there from people that have worked on those movies but overall we have very little to go on.
