Most people would use their brains in these sorts of discussions. Ponyville and Canterlot are smack dab in the middle of the country, the Equestria equivalent of Kansas and/or the states surrounding it, and therefore extensively, situated a few hundred miles west of Equestria’s version of the Mississippi River. By the name of the city alone, Canterlot in Equestria Girls is implied to be located in generally the same area, as Cel had said she moved the mirror from her joint to the Crystal Empire for Cadance to watch over, before being brought to Twilight’s castle.

I’d like to think reading between lines is a given for any fan considering how extremely ambiguous the story and characters in these animations are, but I was supposedly proven wrong countless times for the past five years. XD

We could suppose human EQG land isn’t even in our world, but in a human version of the pone world. So the local geography of the given area is basically the same as the given geography of central Equestria. Relatively, it appears Camp Everfree is roughly in the same direction as the Everfree Forest in pone-world.

Also, Canterlot is on the side of a mountain, this place is in the mountains, heh.

Sort of like a greener Salt Lake City if it’s got skyscrapers. I don’t know if any actual city irl in the mountains but not on the coast that has a skyline.

I was thinking a bit further west than that: Northern California, Oregon, possibly western Idaho. Either there, or one of the hillier parts of the Midwest (Pittsburgh-ish?).

Either way, it seems like a small to medium size town: 150k-200k urban, about two or three times that metro. And not completely isolated, but a bit of a drive to the nearest town, with some hick country in between.

What “west” of the river? Immediate west, like the Idaho area? Because last I checked that’s where you get into plains country and there’s not a lot of big defining hills or mountains like here. Or west-coast west, where you would have a lot of mountains again?

“West of the Mississippi” is a pretty broad geographical brush. It’s like saying, “North of the Gulf” or, “South of Canada.”
