I mean yeah but it’s more the worry about what else would suddenly be put on the chopping block if something that was completely inside the bounds of what was acceptable according to the rules was suddenly deemed banable without warning.

I don’t care about the drama at all. And generally I think mixing ponies with real world politics is a bad idea, so even if all political content is banned on this site, I’ll be OK with it.

First: if they’re making money doing it, they sure-as-shit are infringing on Hasbro’s IP. Commissions and patronage count as “making money” according to the IRS, so legally they are profiting off Hasbro’s IP without their explicit permission.
 
Second: if I commission something, do I get the right on where to show it? Like if I commission a work from an artist on the DNP list and then upload it here, for example. If the answer is no, then not only are they infringing on Hasbro’s IP, but they’re also doing it to steal from a customer (first-sale doctrine).

Alrighty then. I’ll try my best to keep this as brief as possible.
 
Back in early June, the staff got way too worked up over something that wasn’t affecting their own backyards and decided to start changing site policy based on their political beliefs. People didn’t like this. They then started closing off comment sections to images that had certain tags. People liked this even less. Then one of the site programmers decided to introduce a shadowban script that would prevent various people from interacting or seeing images with said tags. People were getting angry. A new site admin is presented and says that they will revert the changes to before the art bans and shadowbanning system. People liked this. A spiteful former staff member however doesn’t and decides to go to mainstream news in order to get them to paint bronies as “nazi sympathizers”. Another site staff member stabs the new admin in the back and says that they’ll be looking to ban political stuff entirely.
 
Everyone is furious now because one camp hates how DB is betraying their pony art and animation mission statement while flip-flopping between what is and is not acceptable and the other hates how there’s a rampant “nazi” issue amongst bronies. New site admin is livid about this backstab and decides to vent by leaking the entire mod channel chat logs on their Discord server to /mlp/. Site admin is then removed from the team because they decided it was something that was worth sharing with the server. Chat logs are revealed to show how the creator was willing to sink his own website over the mainstream claim about bronies being overrun with “nazis”. Site staff have two polls (one private and one public) to see what would be the best way forward since artists were putting out DNP requests left and right while others were threatening to pull Patreon funding.
 
To this day, the public poll is being ignored and now we are left with where we are today. That being a much less active website that is currently being challenged by at least four different alternatives racing to import as much content as possible from DB while being much more lenient on what is allowed to be posted.

Making fanart is not “infringing” on an IP. Hasbro is not somehow losing money because of people making fanart, if anything it’s free publicity. (Also they’re a billion dollar conglomerate so it’s not like they haven’t got plenty of money)
 
However, an artist should be able to decide whether their own art gets reposted on another website, because sometimes that ends up taking views away from their own site / deviantart account / whatever. Also sometimes their art is meant for an exclusive audience, like only for Patreon supporters or something. Posting it here would mean that they effectively lose money.

Maybe it’s true. If you want to see the drama, you will see the drama.

This is why gatekeeping is essential and healthy. I don’t want video games in my studies and I don’t want politics in my art, and vice versa. Gamification sucks, and politicizing fandoms sucks even more.

Up until the point the arts from somebody you’re following is gone, or replaced with politics.

I try to ignore it, just like a zombie ignores his/her own death.

My studies hold that drama and controversy are healthy for the brain, which is why we seek out drama and controversy. Many other psychologists also use this as an opportunity to make a name for themselves, even if it means contradicting social sciences.
