Oh god it’s already happening, RIP pictures and stories of the Dazzlings in various time periods, we haven’t even had Dazzling pilgrims yet to explain how they got to America.
@Background Pony #2D51
well… if indeed the dazzlings are 1000 years old and the amulets/emotion stealing are the ones keeping them alive/young, would that mean the ending of rainbow rocks gave the dazzlings a death sentence?
@Background Pony #2D51
Actually that ending fits to many fan’s headcannons so it wouldn’t be because of his writing. But Nightmare moon’s arc pretty much ruins my headcannon so i don’t know.
I just pray enough people, especially artists and writers, don’t accept this as canon. I don’t want to live in a future where no one makes art or stories about the Dazzlings being on Earth for 1000 years because of Ted’s shitty writing.

Nothing in that explanation contradicts the idea there was a mistake on his part. If he didn’t choose the date, fate did for reasons that work with the aforementioned explanation.
@martianmister
It makes more sense for them to be discussing it after a month than after 1000 years. After a month they’d still be pissed about being banished, after 1000 years they’d be jaded to it. Sure, they’d still be excited for a chance to get their magic back, but they wouldn’t be so angry about the loss.
@Background Pony #7944
They’re talking about things they’re already know, that’s exposition and nothing more. Let’s pretend they’re there for a month: why would Aria question Adagio about things she should know by that point?
@Background Pony #A5CE
Just because it was likely there for exposition doesn’t mean it can just be automatically written off. It’s still a part of the movie, and while not outright stating something, it does give that impression.
My interpretation is that, knowing the Sirens would be without magic, Starswirl sent them to a time period where he thought it would be easier for them to fit in.
If 1000 years ago in humanland is anything like in real life, it’s probably not the safest time period for 3 teenage girls to live.
So that answers that. Even though I was in the thousand-year camp before, I’m okay with this. Whatever spell Star Swirl used to toss the Sirens out clearly wasn’t part of the mirror’s usual operation, and if you have the ability to throw your enemies forward in time while sending them to another world, why wouldn’t you? It gives you a chance to work on a more permanent solution in their absence–or at least to make preparations like, I don’t know, putting up a warning sign about not taking magical devices through the mirror.
I attribute that more to exposition just for the sake of explanation, it doesn’t really imply much about when they were banished but just kind of explains what they’re doing and why it isn’t working to clue the audience in without the need for text or a narrator.
I dunno… For the first point, you can kind of infer that it hasn’t really been all that long since they were banished, based on what Adagio and Aria say.
@martianmister
The last point is debatable since they never explicitly say how they were banished, but the mirror was still a pretty stupid edition that just raises was more continuity breaking questions then it answers. You’re other two points are spot on though.
@Stotter
But you’re making it needlessly complicated. Starswirl is established to work with time spells, and to make mistakes. Thats a much simpler explanation.
