“And here’s the supposed plot hole of RR filled”

So you filled a non-existent plot hole (that almost no one questioned because the idea that immortal sirens could have just been around for 1000 years in the human world wasn’t very hard to believe) by making a huge fucking plot hole that contradicts the established canon in the movies (time in Equestria and Earth moves at relatively the same speed).

Congratulations Anderson, once again you prove that the only reason you get work is because IDW doesn’t feel like hiring competent writers.

And bam. Then EQG2 happens?

@Lifebreaker92
It was his beard that changed color, not his coat.
Lifebreaker92

Also a side note, anyone notice that their pendants are the exact color they were in equestria and not red?

@Masem
but this does, however, explain why after 1000 years They don’t have a better power hold over the planet, considering there abilities

@platypusmac
Speaking of the reflections arc, for all we know this could be an alternate universe starswirl who also knew how to create and manipulate the mirrors as well. Which could explain why his coat is blue and not grey. Although in the journal of the two sisters its stated that he has a brown coat and it turned grey because he exhausted his magic. Though I still believe time travel theory rather than immortality theory. I mean the fandom believed that it was the pendants pretty much keeping them alive, and with them destroyed, it kind of felt grim to think they would just rapidly age to dust. But with the comic canon stating that they were sent forward in time, it makes more sense that the pendants were just holding their magic. Its just that, if they had lived 1000 years in the EQG world, why didn’t they mention any of it at all. You’d think that with a thousand years experience it would be easy to take over the school, hell even the world despite the lower magic in that world.

I don’t.

And for the record, he already did fall into the “from bad to worse” train when his reputation was already shattered by the fandom.

In fact, because of his track record and reputation I had high hopes for this comic. The first EQG Annual was pretty nice, Pinkie’s Micro was fantastic, CMC’s Micro is my fave, Spike & Celestia’s FF is impressive, and the Manehattan Mysteries arc was another hit of him. So far his work since the Second Annual has been sub-par, but I expected that to be a little hiccup in his career, and not follow Katie Cook into the “From Bad to Worse” train.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Not to defend Ted, but according to another comic (yes, “Reflections”) Starswirl was the one who made the Mirrors, so he probably knows a few tricks about them that not even Celestia does know. Like, for example, how to make them appear in mid-air, rather than in a different portal, so that they have no idea how to go back.

This is a Ted Anderson comic.
Perhaps you could’ve seen that one coming in terms of his reputation and track record.

I hope the nightmare moon comic is not lame.

Glad that terrible they are 1000 year old thing is finally over, I never for a moment thought they were. However if I was going to write a they fell into the future thing, I would have it so they emerge at the same time as Sunset Shimmer. Like they got sucked in the mirror like magic cryo and Sunset Shimmer going through broke the seal and spit them out.

Seriously, we need more different writers to work on Equestria Girls related comics. I’m a bit tired of seeing his name on them, if I’m being honest.

The show and novels establish Starswirl works with time spells. And that he’s bad at it. It’s not a stretch to assume he sent them to the future as well as the alternate dimension.

Awesome dude
If they were banished by Starswirl 1000 years ago, Shouldn’t they be in the time before any settlers came to America, or where ever the city of Canterlot in the human world is?

@Masem
seems to me that the mirror system hasn’t been fully understood to know what does what exactly.

twilight,spike and sunset went through the mirror willingly, the sirens did not (as well as being magically sent there). so the results came out differently?
Background Pony #D2DA
Pbbt. Really?

This doesn’t exactly contradict anything (as Masem pointed out, the mirror properties could be different considering where the Dazzlings landed as opposed to Twilight, but given the rest of the comic’s writing I doubt this was intentional by the writers). But at the same time, it’s just…lame. Twilight’s ten second explanation for the sirens was better than this comic.

People who defend this by bringing up the cafe scene in the beginning of the film…I dunno. I always just chalked that up as the movie’s writing pandering to the kiddies.

I’ll consider this one non-canon and continue believing the more exciting headcanon of the Dazzlings living on Earth for a thousand years throughout history. I seriously do want to know why the writers for this comic tried so hard to stray from that headcanon when it’s been pretty much accepted by 99% of the fans.
Dizzy Pen

Wait…. Ok, I can accept the idea that the Dazzlings were sent to the future…. But the way it was portraited was simply a stupid one.
Come on Ted, YOU WROTE THE SPIKE & CELESTIA COMIC! YOU KNOW WORLD-BUILDING! YOU KNOW STORYTELLING! THOSE ARE YOUR FORTE! WHY TRY DOWNRIGHT COMEDY?!
Man… he just has lost his touch! This comic was just… totally missed the chance to make the Dazzlings threatening and dangerous, yet hilarious and likable (Like they were in Rainbow Rocks), and instead put them into basically ANOTHER Battle of the Bands… except without everything that made Rainbow Rocks awesome (And just so you realize what this means: the SEQUEL to the movie that made the Mane 6 INTO TEENAGETS IN HIGH SCHOOL made the villains much more SMART, CHARISMATIC, AND REALLY THREATENING throught the whole movie than the comic designed to showcase the best of them. That should tell you how hard they dropped the ball)
Seriously, Sombra’s comic had some little nitpicks, but overall I loved it. Tirek’s comic I ABSOLUTELY liked it and I can say it has potential for a followup, maybe a full arc of Tirek’s Rise to Power… But this one? DISAPPOINTED!!!
I really, REALLY, REAAAAALLY hope Nightmare Moon’s backstory is at least interesting… I don’t care if it messes up the continuity of the show, if it’s good, then it’s worth it.

As another point - note they aren’t coming out of the CHS statue base, but out of mid-air. This further implies this traversal through the mirror is different from what Sunset and Twilight experienced, and could be complicated by them being Sirens, that Star Swirl was using magic to open the mirror at the right time, or one of a number of mirrors he had created.

However, at the end of the day, I think what this comes down to is that while this has no contradictions with anything in the movie and other materials, it’s just not the most interesting way they could have handled the Sirens’ banishment without contradiction. The idea of them surviving 1000 years, swapping identities, for example, is rather interesting. I wouldn’t call this lazy, but just not as inspired. It works for all purposes of a kids comic to start with.
dynamicv

For some reason I only just noticed that they didn’t come out of the horse statue at CHS!

Is this perhaps because their trip through the mirror was due to a spell and involves time travel?

It helps to differentiate this trip from normal mirror use at least.

I think it was Ted Anderson, who I’m pretty sure has written all but maybe one of the Equestria Girls related comics, which I find kind of frustrating because scandals & such aside he’s mediocre on a good day writing-wise.

I really think they should let more people try their hand at writing for the Equestria Girls related comics.
