@Itsthinking
Given that the comic has them in their hippocampi forms quite visible to the public and far from disguising themselves, that approach doesn’t seem like their MO.
But at the end of the day, someone had to extrapolate on what little there was given in the script of RR - “they were banished by SS long ago by using music to instill discord”, to build out something. As with all these stories, they’re only vetted by Hasbro for content but not for continuity with anything they had planned.
More interesting perhaps, but it would contradict the opening scene of Rainbow Rocks.
If they have been there 1000 years, why would Adagio have to explain to Aria how magic is different there? Sonata might need hand holding but Aria isn’t stupid.
@40kponyguy
Hmmm Twilight was supposed to born 1000 years after that. Maybe problems started because of her born or Nightmare Moon’s release. I still wonder how Tirek got away and why Discord waked after 1000 years too. Almost every villain from before had appeared but why now. Is it plothole or they plan something bigger in the story?
@soundtea
…… the comics are classified as secondary canon. normally i promote we should take them into account. this is one of the very, very few comics that i say burn. this is just fucking stupid. this is ruining what could have been an epic encounter, or at least interesting, and turning it into trash.
who wrote this idiocy? was he high, or did he not look at those oldey time drawings they made for the movie and realize that the sirens were not pony sized, did not perform on stages, and basically acted like a plague to equestria rather than three idiots galavanting around where everyone could point at them and say ’hey its those sea horses that have been causing trouble. get em!!!”
if you excuse me, i am gonna go bash my head into a wall for a few hours. normally i am not this harsh on the idw comics, but this, this is just jumping the shark.
@Masem
And there will continue to be dozens of theories that are thrown around while the one that actually makes sense and is interesting will continue to be the general interpretation.
It’s incredibly interesting when you have immortal people trying to hide their immortality by adopting a new life every century. It made the concept of the Dazzlings more interesting in theory…
@Masem
You ever heard of traveling? They’ve had 1000 years. They go to a community, cause some ruckus, and leave before they attract too much suspision. Given the size of the world and how long they’ve had. It would have been trivial to just wait until the community forgot about them through time.
I’m the kind of person who makes 50,000 character headcanon topics discussing headcanons on pony forums, and even I don’t understand what’s trying to be explained differently, here.
@Itsthinking
Consider that they know the emotions they were feeding on in EQG were not as good meals as they were in Equestria, and considered getting Equestrian magic as a feast. Using those emotions to keep their youth/immortally, I could accept, but that would also imply that they were feeding like pigs prior to the comic, and then starve themselves in EQG, and that immortality power would be far from effective.
Also, if they were active for 1000 years in EQG world, you’d think their actions would be noticed by someone at some point. Cutting their time down in EQG world avoids a lot of issues that could be there.
Basically there were dozens of theories prior to this comic, this just narrows down a lot of them.
When I saw the film I had assumed the Sirens had been sent to the future.
The fact that Adagio is explaining to Aria that “the energy in this world isn’t the same” made it seem like they had figured that out recently. It’s not the kind of thing you would take 1000 years to realize.
When new material comes out it is inevitable that some headcanons are contradicted and others confirmed.
In hindsight, (a little off-topic but it seems the best place to get this out right now), the show’s writers tend to fall back on the ‘1000 years ago’ events a lot.
Nightmare Moon- banished 1000 years ago
King Sombra and the Crystal Empire- Disappeared 10000 years ago
The Sirens- banished 1000 years ago
Has nothing exceptional happened in the intervening years?
(Aside from Ponyville being established, courtesy of Granny Smith’s zap apples?)
@dynamicv
Either way, taking this comic into account, this kills one of the more interesting inferred things of the siren’s backstory. No place I know of questioned on how they survived when they got banished 1k years ago. Everyone just linked it to their gems as they absorbed negative energy to feed from them.
@Masem
I assumed it was the discord that they collected that kept them young. It’s a more interesting headcanon than this, which by the way, is nothing more than that.
It was never a plot hole, more like an unanswered question.
Unless you take into account the fact that the Sirens’ conversation at the start of the film sounds like they haven’t been there long.
In any case, this doesn’t create a plot hole because this doesn’t contradict anything said in the film. If there was a scene where they explicitly said they had been stuck there for a thousand years, THEN it would be a plot hole.
@Itsthinking
It’s not so much that they don’t have any “food”, but that they are human teenagers and didn’t age. Nothing suggests they were immortal (and even if immortal in Equestria would that transfer to EQG world).
And the dialog at the start of RR does imply “some” time but not 100s of years had passed.
